Ginseng

Ginseng is a slow growing perennial root plant with 11 species found in North America and East Asia. The secret to its popularity, and numerous amazing health benefits for both the athlete and the normal joe, is ginsenosides which help your body recover and boosts your immune system.

History

The history of ginseng can be traced back to 3000 BC in China, where it was used for its rejuvenating powers, and it was a symbol of divine harmony. Emperors would use ginseng daily as part of their diets, and in their creams and lotions.

In the 16th century, the major issue in China was disagreements over ginseng fields. On the other hand, in the US, early settlers discovered ginseng naturally growing in the wild. Today, there is 75,000 tons of ginseng in international commerce coming from China, Korea, US, and Canada with sales in the billions of dollars. Ginseng is currently found in small doses in energy drinks, teas, coffee, and other beverages. To get a liberal amount of ginseng, it is required you supplement with the root instead of the other parts of the plant.

Medicinal Uses

There are four basic medicinal uses for ginseng, which are world renowned home remedies. Those are: aphrodisiac, stimulant, type II diabetes treatment, and sexual dysfunction treatment.

Clinical studies have shown ginseng is effective for the following and more. A Mayo Clinic study revealed that in cancer patients ginseng helped increase physical and mental activity among those who were weak and tired. A study for NJTM showed ginseng had anti-inflammatory benefits. A Korean study showed that 60% of men who took ginseng had improvements to their erectile dysfunction.

Ginsenosides and Athletes

Ginsenosides are compounds found in ginseng, studies have shown they help boost your immune system, help with inflammation, and increase metabolism. These qualities can help boost your workouts and recovery, and also help offset nagging injuries. Another big benefit is the regulation of high and low blood sugar, which can alter your energy during your workouts. This can give you a huge advantage in fast paced cardio or weight training sessions where you are burning glucose.

LH and Anabolic Steroid users

When someone uses anabolic steroids, their LH (Luteinizing hormone) becomes suppressed as their pituitary glands no longer produce that hormone. Imagine a car with no more fuel to power the engine, this is essentially what happens when your LH stops. Ginseng has been proven in studies to increase LH, which is the hormone that stimulates your leydig cells to produce testosterone. Thus, as you can assume, ginseng makes a great addition to your post cycle therapy to help your HPTA recover after a steroid cycle.

Erectile Dysfunction

Since ginseng increases nitric oxide production and blood circulation in males, it will act to increase erections and cure erectile dysfunction. A lot of steroid users complain about impotence during their post cycle therapy, so ginseng is a way to offset that without depending on harsh and dangerous ED drugs with horrible side effects.

Side effects

Ginseng is a natural root, so obviously sides will be rare; however, if you run too much it can cause stimulant type sides like increased blood pressure or insomnia. These symptoms are extremely rare and dose dependent.

Supplementation

As mentioned above, the amount of ginseng in energy beverages is extremely tiny. If you take a look at energy drinks that claim to have ginseng, and look at the ingredients, you will see many times the amount of actual ginseng isn't even listed. If it is listed, it's a watered down version with fillers and sugar.

For this reason, it is important you choose a well known brand and supplement company that you can trust. One such supplement with high quality ginseng is called HCGenerate ES (ES stands for extra strength) from N2BM. It contains a whopping 125mg of ginseng as well as many other ingredients, all for the sole purpose of taking you to the next level, both on cycle and especially during post cycle therapy. I highly recommend supplementing with ginseng, as it will have tremendous benefits.
