T3 Thyroid

Cytomel T3 (chemical name: liothyronine sodium) is a synthetic form of thyroid hormone that is mostly used to treat hypothyroidism and myxedema coma. These conditions can be triggered by thyroid cancer, Graves' disease, and even by an unhealthy lifestyle.

Liothyronine sodium is also widely used in psychiatric circles. When combined with other drugs, T3 can be fairly effective in the treatment of major depressive disorders.

Hypothyroidism

The term hypothyroidism comes from the word 'reduced' (hypo) plus thyroid. It is the opposite of hyperthyroidism, which is the condition of an over-active thyroid. Both of these conditions can be diagnosed with blood work. However, one can also pay attention to such indicators of hypothyroidism as tiredness, weight gain and poor ability to tolerate cold. If these symptoms are experienced, one should do a blood test.

Hypothyroidism has grown substantially in the USA due to poor lifestyle choices, overuse of prescription and recreational drugs, stress, and daily routines. Today, even children are not an exception because hypothyroidism is frequently found among them. In fact, it is thought to occur in almost 9% of the population in western countries.

How it Works

In simple terms, when you use synthetic T3, you are increasing your overall thyroid hormone levels, which causes metabolism to speed up. Unfortunately, when you do this, your body will stop producing T3 naturally until you cease usage of Cytomel and the body recovers.

A similar situation occurs when bodybuilders inject testosterone that suppresses natural production of testosterone in their bodies.

Effects of Metabolic Activity

T3 is a regulator of the oxidative metabolism of energy. When you take liothyronine sodium it will increase the uptake of nutrients into the mitochondria, which raises activity in the oxidative metabolic pathway. This causes everything to work harder within the organism and makes the body demand more fuel.

Bodybuilding

The increase of ATP and metabolic activity leads the body to burn fat. This is why bodybuilders use T3 as a part of their anabolic steroid stacks. Furthermore, T3 is popular among bodybuilders because it can help burn those stubborn 1 to 2% of body fat that won't come off through just diet and cardio.

Another interesting property of Cytomel is that it can enhance growth hormone (GH) production. However, using Cytomel solely for this purpose is not recommended.

Side Effects

Very high levels of T3 will stress the heart and can be dangerous, so correct dosages are very important.

Hyperthyroidism, which is the opposite of hypothyroidism, will occur when T3 is abused. The symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

  • Weight loss
  • Strong Headache
  • Body Tremor
  • Stomach issues
  • Increased Irritability
  • Sporadic Insomnia
  • Excessive sweating
  • Appetite Increase
  • Heat Sensitivity

Post Use

High levels of T3 suppress the release of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which will reduce thyroid signaling hormone (TSH).

There is the risk of being sluggish when you come off T3, and your metabolism may grind to a screeching halt. Therefore, it is important to run supplements to help your thyroid levels recover quickly.

Essentially, this means you must come off the Cytomel for as much time as you were on, and run such supplements as zinc, selenium, ashwagandha and vitamin B-12. Luckily, there is a supplement that has all of these elements, and even more. It is called T3-PCT, sold by N2BM, and it is extremely affordable.

Dosing

When used for treatment of hypothyroidism, the dosage will be determined on an individual level by the attending doctor. On the other hand, bodybuilders have several ways to run this compound, ranging from a very conservative method, to an aggressive method focusing on rapid weight loss. Cycle length is also a factor.

The conservative approach is 12.5-25 micrograms (mcg) per day (either single in the morning or split dose) for 4-6 weeks. This dosage will cause minimal thyroid suppression, as well as minimal side effects while on.

The more aggressive approach is 50-75mcg per day (usually split dose AM/PM) for 2-3 months. This approach may potentially cause side effects and suppress natural thyroid production. Therefore, post use supplement therapy is very important to help the body rebound quicker.

It is recommended to run T3 with anabolic steroids in order to avoid loss of muscle mass.

Half Life

According to medical literature, liothyronine sodium's half life is around 1.5-2 days. Hence, it will be necessary to dose daily, or even twice per day to maintain steady levels of the active substance in the blood.
