What is estrogen, why it's important with men, and how to understand bloodwork?
Steve says the official definition of Estrogen is a category of sex hormone responsible for the regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. Steve says a common question is how will a person know if their estrogen is high? When it comes to bloodwork your estrogen numbers range is 12-42pg/ML. On a cycle with Testosterone or Dianabol for example, that number can rise very rapidly which will spike your estrogen and cause a bunch of side effects that the guys go through.

Estrogen side effects to watch out for on a cycle
Gynecomastia/Breasts- This is a big problem and a very embarrassing condition where you end up with breasts as a man. Even teenagers can get this condition during their puberty stage as their body develops. With anabolic steroids, it can result in a person looking like they have 'man boobs' and you will need to either hope it goes away on its own, get on an anti-gyno stack, or get the surgery to remove the issue.
Heart disease- We see this commonly in those with major heart issues and a lot of it has to do with poor lifestyle choices, but with bodybuilders, it's an issue since they are retaining water.
Erectile dysfunction- ED is a common issue in today's world and part of that is high estrogen and if it gets too high on cycle it can cause this issue.
Infertility- If your hormones are out of balance it can lower your sperm count.
Fatigue- Steve says this is obvious because if you are holding extra water all day of course it will make you more tired. If you start noticing your energy is poor and you are struggling then it might be because of high estrogen.
Decreased Libido- This is common especially when you're coming off steroids and going into pct, when your hormones are down but your estrogen is still high.
Mood changes- High estrogen can affect your mood and make you change your personality, especially when it is way too high.
Muscle atrophy- This means your muscles drop in size. It can happen when your estrogen is high.
Depression- When there is a big imbalance of male hormones and estrogen you can feel sad and depressed.
Osteoporosis- This one is rare in weight trainers but it is possible if you abuse steroids long-term.
Water retention- This, directly and indirectly, will cause problems with rapid weight gain, moon face, fluffy muscles, etc. If you notice you are gaining a lot of water there is a good chance your estrogen is high.
Hair loss- Having high estrogen and using anabolic steroids can cause rapid hair loss.
Weight gain and Belly fat- If you have a lot of estrogen issues, then your body will be more likely to hold fat and gain weight.
Type 2 diabetes- High estrogen in men can be a magnet to a disease like this one cause you are raising your weight so fast.
Enlarged prostate- This is a major problem that can be made worse when you are abusing steroids.
Cancer- High estrogen has been proven to fire up cancer cells in the body.
