Intro

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Douglas Johnson, nicknamed The Rock, is a popular American former professional wrestler, actor, and entrepreneur. He spent almost a decade in the ring and rose quickly to become one of the best of his era as a wrestler. He has since become a major action actor and his movies have made over $10B.

His peak stats are 6'5'' and 260 pounds ripped. In this article, we will take a look at his life, successes, workouts/diet, and steroid use.

Early life

The Rock was born in the Bay area of California on May 2nd, 1972. His mother is Samoan and his dad is mostly Black Nova Scotian and Irish. His father wrestled and was very athletic, and his grandparents were former wrestling promoters for Polynesian Pro Wrestling.

He spent some of his childhood in New Zealand and played some rugby. He moved around a lot growing up, spending time in Hawaii, Connecticut, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. This may have led to his petty crimes as a teenager where he was busted for things like fighting and theft. In school, he played a lot of sports and was considered gifted.

The Rock was able to land a scholarship for football playing at the University of Miami, although he was a backup at defensive tackle. At the time Miami was a powerhouse football team and guys like Warren Sapp (hall of fame football player) were ahead of him on the depth chart.

In 1995, he graduated college and became a speaker to kids about staying away from drugs and getting an education. He also briefly played pro football but in the Canadian Football League.

Wrestling

The Rock's wrestling heritage became his next goal, and in 1996, he was helped by Pat Patterson for some tryouts with the WWF. His first WWF name was Rocky Maivia and his first nickname was 'The Blue Chipper'. Fans were not on his side his first couple of years as a pro wrestler and he was regularly booed. He used this to his favor by insulting his opponents, interviewers, and fans in a lighthearted manner.

His nickname would gradually start changing to 'The Rock' Rocky Maivia. Then eventually just 'The Rock'.

Over the next couple of years, he started to build a fan base and built rivalries with other wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin. After winning the WWF Championship in 1998, he then lost it to Austin at WrestleMania XV.

By 2000, he was established as one of the huge wrestling draws and was making the show sport extremely profitable. Although he went back and forth with fans between being booed and being cheered, he retired from wrestling as one of the best of all time after almost a decade. After his retirement, he returned for guest appearances and drew millions of watchers. Here he is teaming up with John Cena in 2011

He also broke the record for most 'Raw' shows in a year with 38 and most 'Smackdown' shows with 36. Here is a montage of his best Smackdown moments

Acting career

The Rock started on shows including 'Star Trek' and 'That 70's Show'. From there he started to act in action movies including 'The Scorpion King', 'Walking Tall', and 'Doom'. Although his movies were average to poor in terms of critical acclaim, he was still a huge draw among the young male demographic. The Rock's physique and personality make him an excellent typecast actor for light-hearted tough-guy roles, although he lacks the sheer talent of others like Sean Penn or Brad Pitt.

At his peak, he would command $20M per movie. Here is a look at some of his best fight scenes

He has had more success in terms of the quality of the movie as a producer and some of his films have been rated well including 'Jumanji:Welcome to the 'Jungle', 'Stuntman', 'Fighting with My Family', and 'Shazam!'

Here is a full lineup of his film career which is still very much going.
