    Behind the neck presses

How common is this lift today among lifters today? I have heard over the yrs this movement has a high injury rate so people tend to stay away from it. I really don't see a lot of people doing this in my gym or maybe I'm not paying attention but personally for me I LOVE this lift and have been doing it since the 70's and never had an issue with injury.

They've gotten a bad rap because they can be a strain and some people get hurt using them. I've used them for decades no problem. I feel they hit the outer delts much better than front presses.

the shoulders are not meant to be pounded into the dirt.

certain muscles like abs you can
    calves? you can

shoulders? no. you will eventually tear your shoulders by over training them.

i don't recommend overhead presses or pulldowns of any volume. you can go light and mid reps if you want, but do not dare go heavy . i especially do not recommend military presses. not only are they extremely likely to tear your shoulders but the kicker is they are simply not necessary to build shoulders

they are not something i have ever done... i was taught very very early on, in my teens, to steer clear from them, from a very very experienced trainer at the time... I had great mentors when i was learning and honestly this was something that was taught to never do on your own nor have others do when training them because of the amount of strain it caused... just because some people did them, especially back in the day, doesnt make it right or safe whatsoever

I do behind neck presses every shoulder workout

the problem is guys using too much weight and jerking the barbell too much imo

if you go slow with 30% of your PR you can easily do it with good effort and no injury
