Blood work/tests, doctor unhelpful and no knowledge... any advice?

Went into local gp today (random male doctor) hoping to get a better advice/support from him, layed out my situation (test e 500mg per week, 6th week in) asking for blood work in regard to my health and for "total testosterone" test specifically to measure the quality of the gear I am on, which I am doubting it's quality.

Doc was really judgemental, unsupportive and didn't seem to have much knowledge on what to ask, test or advise, even went as far to say people die from abuse of testosterone...

    Going to go for blood test in the morning for total testosterone test;

    - Any other tests I should ask for in regard to normal health?
    - Anyone know the price of the test? (Pathology also knew nothing as they were unable to tell me the price, how it would be billed, until after the test is done)
    - anyone know of other gp's or specialists that have a better understanding of steroid blood work?

I just posted this on another Thread a couple days ago......................... JP

There's a Sticky on Bloodwork that you can read.

Most Guys, myself included, use PrivateMdLabs for Bloodwork, it's Inexpensive and Reliable.

Usually, I get the Female Hormone Panel, for Pre & Post Bloodwork (put male in box) ~ $66.99
    For Mid-Cycle, I get the Hormone Panel with Testosterone LC/MS-MS ~ $85.99.

There a 15% Off Promo Code that changes monthly.
You can always find it on PrivateMd's "Facebook Page".
December's Code for 15% Off for Online Orders Only is "FBSEASON"............................. JP
    P.S.
The reason for the LC/MS-MS Total Test at Mid-Cycle, is to check the Quality of your Gear.
This test isn't capped @ 1,500 Ng/dl like Regular Serum Total Test on the Female Hormone Panel.

read this thread. it tells you everything about blood work and how to get it, and i even include a discount code

going to a doctor for blood work is a waste of time. you will need 3 trips (requesting bloods, doing bloods, getting results) vs. just doing it my way and going to the lab and getting emailed the results.

also random GP's are the dumbest doctors.. those are the guys with zero talent who know only how to write a prescription, they usually just write you out whatever the pharma companies offer as rewards.

Doctors aren't trained to interpret blood work. Their education is 99% prescription drugs and writing prescriptions.

With the blood work, make sure to get the following values checked -
    testosterone - free and total
    thyroid - T3, T4, TSH
    estrogen
    progesterone
    prolactin
    cholesterol values
    kidney values
    liver enzymes
    prostate values
    fasting blood glucose

When you get the results, make sure to ask for a print off so you can post photos on the board for all of us to review. Just because something is in the normal range, doesn't mean it's optimal. The ratio of hormones is also very important. Doctors are trained in a 'black and white' sort of way. They are taught that if something is in the normal range, it's good.

That's not true. For example, you might have normal testosterone levels, but the range is 200-1000. If your values are 250, that is technically normal, but that is normal for a 70 year old man. A healthy 40 year old males values should be more like 600.

Plenty of good advice. But thankfully our British Docs are better, it seems, than the US ones.

every british person i know in the States says their healthcare in britain was 500X better. that is the only thing they say was better in britain. I wish the US wasn't the way it was with healthcare, problem is it is such a huge industry that capping costs and increasing QUALITY care isn't going to happen unless we completely nationalize it. capitalism works great for technology, but it doesn't work when it comes to healthcare when peoples lives are at stake. you end up with some people getting great care and everyone else getting shit care

You will have to "shop around" for a good doctor. They can be hard to come by.

There are idiots in the profession but by god some patients take the fkin biscuit. We get stories all the time about 'my 7 hour wait in ER' here (aka A&E). Usually cos they went to ER for some BS reason and some poor bastard was nigh on killed in a car crash and said idiots wants to know why they still gotta wait 'cos I've been here longer'. Now, if I was gonna get a blood test for my test levels I'd fkin pay. I don't expect the NHS to pick up the slack on my roid use.

I don't do the awe thing with docs so I'm normally treated well and ask all the questions I need without being rude.

Primary care docs generally arenít dumb. Managing blood work related to gear just isnít part of their training. Thereís also not much continuing medical education out there about how to nonjudgementally support people who use anabolic steroids.

Be upfront about your usage. But donít engage them about labs, unless you encounter a problem. Itís a waste of mental energy.
