Partial tear or fully torn?

I have been experiencing some slight irritation in my left rotator cuff. Today it felt better so I decided to do barbell bench. It’s been about 8 days since last time.

Went too heavy and felt a pop in between my arm pit and nipple. I didn’t give out.. but I was able to hold the weight till my spotter took it from me. There hasn’t been much swelling. No bruising as of yet. It’s been about 6 hours since this happened.

I went to urgent care and the doctor was having trouble with everything. He had to walk out the room to look at a diagram of the chest and shoulder to see what he was talking about.
Anyway he said “I’ve felt around and it seems like everything is attached, but only way to absolutely tell is an mri”
-told me to rest. And ice it down. Go see an orthopedic in two weeks for an MRI if it still hurts.

I haven’t flexed my chest or try to do anything with it since 2-3pm today. But after it happened I was able to still flex my chest. I can rotate my arm in whatever direction I want. But if I go to do a push up I give out right when my chest is engaged. Remember I haven’t tried any of this since 2-3pm. I know something is wrong, but I wanted to see how bad I guess. So now I’m just putting it in a sling.

My uncle is an orthopedic so I am going see him tomorrow for an MRI. Hopefully nothing is fully torn and I hope my muscle isn’t torn.

If anyone has experience with a blown pec or slight tear or anything with the pec. Please let me know.

If there is also something I can take to help the recovery that would be nice as well. I’ve been on mk677 the last month and I’ve loved what it brought to the table. I don’t want my hard work the last months go to waste.

I now realize I’ll never do barbell bench again and that it’s the devil. So please don’t give me crap about I should have never went heavy on barbell bench or whatever. I understand I messed up and I will learn from this major mistake in my training program and ego

Done exactly the same thing, however didn't see a doc. Took about a month to recover and I have like a knot in my chest where it has healed.
Strength normal as if it wasn't there, I had done this over 6 months ago.
Just go easy on chest days and it will heal normally.

This picture was taken probably an hour or two after it happened. But that’s the general area where it hurts. Now when I lift my arm like I did in this picture... it’s very sore when I do that.

Thank you for your response man! Yeah I feel kind of a knot as well.

And it shoots up your bicep when you feel it.
Just go easy till it heals and you will be fine.
Full strength and more will come back.

We’re you having any type of irritation. Discomfort in your bicep leading up to it? Last couple weeks I had some in my bicep

I was trying to be a hero and load up the plates to 180kgs after being off gear for a year and fuck all training lol
Felt it twitch and I lifted the bar to the rack. Was done for chest that day.

if you tore a pec, you would know it man... thats not your rotator... you would also know if that was blown... i would still get the m.r.i. for confirmation... its honestly pretty damn hard to say by the picture you posted and even then, you need a doctor to confirm that specializes in that type of thing...

going to an urgent care for a sports injury is like taking a BMW to the redneck mechanic mom and pop shop in town. not only will they screw up your car but they will overcharge you as well and misdiagnose the problem. it is hilarious that he actually messed around with it like he was some sort of expert, dude has zero qualifications to diagnose an injury by touching it. he isn't one of 32 NFL doctors (by the way even they fuck up a lot see Drew Brees as an example)

get an MRI done on both your rotator cuff and pec from a legit sports ortho. i had rotator cuff tear for years and it took going to the same guy who works with pro baseball players to be correctly diagnosed. rotator tears are very common, half of guys in the gym who are gym rats have some sort of tear. you will need to change up how you workout for the foreseeable future with that. as far as the pec tear, as long as it isn't too bad you will be fine resting it for a while.

The peck doesn’t tear it bursts. Yes, you must see a specialist and soon. When I did mine I came up black and blue from my upper abs to my hand.

Take care...

Thanks for the feed back Steve. It happened yesterday around 2pm. Not sure if everyone experimented bruising or swelling but none of that has occurred for me. No swelling or bruising as of yet. Still sore though..

But I’m going get an mri from an orthopedic.
I know it’s difficult and almost impossible for you guys to diagnose me obviously. I just wanted you guys feedback if y’all have experienced any type of injury like this or something similar. I’m just hoping I don’t have to have surgery

see that’s the thing.. I haven’t experienced any bruising. Just slight swelling.. I’m a little sore. I can rotate my arm with ease. Only time it bothers me is if I reach up as high as I can and I stretch. Like I did in the picture I posted.
-so I’m hoping it’s not the worst injury.. but the mri will tell me more

just to let you know when it comes to injuries. i did not know my rotator was torn for many months or even a year or two. i just figured that soreness i was getting in my shoulder and inflammation that was going down my arm was just normal weight training pain/soreness. it is the same thing when you hear of NFL players finish a game with a broken leg. it is the adrenaline and just being used to nagging pain. over time the inflammation started running down my arm and i was noticing weakness in my right arm which motivated me to get it checked out by a good doctor otherwise i would have just kept lifting with the injury

So I’m a little aggravated.

I talked to my uncle yesterday after going to urgent care and gave him the run down of what’s happening. He told me to come to his orthopedic practice and to get an mri. I drive an hour and a half and he just checks me out and throws guesses of what’s wrong and said to come back next week for an mri. Man... he thinks it’s a possible rupture pec major. But can’t tell till we do mri. He did some physical test moving my arm around and making me do certain things. Oh a good note that did a scan of my rotator cuff and no damn age there.

The doctors words

“I think your chair probably is more in the muscle than where the Tendon meets the bone and it is probably only a partial tear not a complete tear. So I do not think it will need surgery. But the MRI will tell us much more.”

He texted me this after I left because I couldn’t remember exactly what he said. He must’ve messed up typing “chair” not sure what that is supposed to mean lol

if he says you need surgery then you need to get multiple opinions. surgery is always a last resort and i don't want another human being knifing me open unless it is absolutely necessary

i would not worry though. this seems like a situation where time will heal. but get used to the fact you won't be able to lift upper body for a while sorry. time for stationary bike and lower body only for a few months. but that is our bodies way of punishing us for over training. that is why i recommend guys deload manually, otherwise i promise your body will force you to take time off. pro athletes have offseasons for a reason!

Yeah my deload week was supposed to be this week but I messed up.. I’ll never forget it either.
-I’m totally fine working out just my lower body, due to its lack of size.
