Veteran Log Why fasting helps you live longer, helps build more muscle. and my prolong fast LOG

Doin good

at first yes, but now not at all. one of the cool things about weight training is that you can achieve an amazing physique without pushing crazy weight.

if i could go back in time i would have told myself to not ever train super heavy. saw a kid today who had 2.5 plates on the bench who has straining doing 3-4 reps. i wanted to tell him to protect his shoulders but its not my place to do that with people. he will learn the hard way himself.

when i was on tren i was doing 420 max 1 reps. and 350-360 for reps. at 196 pounds btw. that is twice my body weight. but look where it got me. i blew out my shoulder in the process. and for what ? my PT told me straight up you will never lift heavy again and i was fine with it cause i got tired of feeling my arm was in a vice for half the night. i COMPLETELY understand why NFL players retire early now.
Stevesmi is referring to the Bench Presss

So today is leg day (YAY).. did some hardcore bicycling yesterday in the HEAT. was sweating my balls off. had to stop twice for some water and was feeling the heat exhaustion sides. no matter how good a shape you are in the heat will eat you alive.

Before my bicycling I did a prep that will last me this entire week.

its stuffed grape leaves.. stuffed with beef, rice, parsley. it is a huge meal which required 7 cups of rice and 7 pounds of beef. the bottom of the pot also had a pound of steak, this prevents the leaves at the bottom from sticking/burning. the recipe also includes cinnamon, salt, black pepper and lemons.

rolling the leaves takes 1-2 hours on a meal like this and the actual cooking takes an hour+.. but as i said its a weeks worth of food so well worth it. traditionally you eat it with some raw yogurt, however since i do not consume dairy i am using coconut yogurt instead.

this is one of the most delicious dishes that I put together. It's a very popular dish in the Mediterranean region depending on different backgrounds and cultures because different ones use different ingredients.

It's an extremely nutritious meal full vitamins and minerals and also plenty of protein. home made dishes like this will never be replicated in any restaurant I don't care where you go!! you could hire the most expensive chef and they couldn't replicate it. tip: if you are going to make this type of dish get two or three friends to help you otherwise it will take you a long time lol.. i had 3 helpers so we got it done in a little over an hour. solo it would have taken me 4 hours
@stevesmi Good work steve....

so the plants above

corn
culantro
arugula
basil
eggplant
tomatoes (cherry)

today workout was very good. did cardio, then arms, then did a leg workout. squats, deadlifts, leg extension and calf work. then did a nice stretching session.

been seeing some nice strength and growth on anavar. I am gonna raise my var dose from 20-30mgs a day to 40-50mgs a day for 3-4 more weeks. I'm gonna shoot for a post torn shoulder PR on the bench on tuesday

@stevesmi i like your natural plants wish I could do it man :)

would be good if we can see cat pics and meal pics too

where i live coconut trees are quite common. i will usually knock some down with a football or look for ones that have fallen
i drink the water and then work on the flesh during the week.

for those who never tried them, there are some good youtube videos on how to open them up and get the flesh without needing a hammer and making a mess and i also recommend buying atleast 3 if you get them at the grocery store cause many times you won't know if its rotten or not inside until you test it out. you might only get 1 that is good if you buy 3
Wish I could go toss a football for coconuts!

I got a message from a vet on here wanting me to go over some advice on fasting past 20 hours cause they have a hard time doing it
its a great question and i will give some tips

It's important to remember that unless you're 3% body fat and on the verge of starvation that you're not really hungry after 20 hours but what happens is your body and brain are playing tricks on you. we eat habitually.. for example when you watch TV you're tempted to stuff your face or if you're dealing through something with work we like to have snacks when we're working or in front of the TV or just when we're hanging out with friends. when it comes to being 'hungry' another big aspect is ghrelin which flutuates throughout the day. this 'hunger hormone' is actually an evolutionary trait found in animals that tells us 'go find food', it isn't actually saying 'go eat something'.

so simplest thing you can do if you are at 20 hours and your body/mind is screaming it wants food is go for a walk or keep your mind busy. You will find after 20 minutes the hunger magically goes away. another option you can do is drink a lot of water and add a pinch of salt and cream of tartar to it. this little electrolyte drink will help with the imbalance. however keep in mind if you keep throwing electrolytes at your body during a faster body will still throw that off anyway because it's normal to have a little electrolyte imbalance during a fast as we go into deep ketosis. i have found especially if i fast during hotter times of year that going for a drive works great. that is similar to a human going for a hunt looking for food and your brain will see lots of things and will be satisfied.

I've been fasting before and been so tempted to eat something, then I went to sleep and the next day I woke up with zero appetite. so it's important to take your fast overnight because once you hit the 20 hour mark That's where a lot of the benefits start kicking in as I mentioned earlier in this fasting log with the pictures i posted. things like autophagy, cell repair and deep detox will start happening so you don't want to leave those beneifts on the table
This is what I need!

yes leg day squats, lunges, extensions, calves and lots of stretching.
Just getting caught up. I thought this was just a fasting thread. Didn’t know I was missing out on so much stuff. Hope the sciatica is settling down. And the food all looks great man!
I definitely want to try a hydromassage! Never heard of it until now.

Pretty good workout today. Hit the back and arms. Arms are looking bigger on this var

Fasted 24hours then workout. Now it’s fajita time. I’m using a very good option for it. This is a great brand I recommend

@stevesmi thats nice man :)
you should make your own almond tortillas
almond flour and fiber easy psyllium

fajitas look really good what's that white stuff on it

nothing beats some good Mexican food

nice job 24-hour fasting like it a lot

love these pictures your posting
food looks incredible

yeah definitely better to buy good quality fajitas or make them on your own

white flour fajitas are so bad for you but that's what they sell at restaurant's

really nice work, you hitting it hard !

will be fasting 24 hours again going into it. feast and famine. its the best way to go. high energy, clear mind and optimal everything

@stevesmi arms looking solid bro....good updates.........

Love the kitty pics. Do you walk them outside? That’s cool we used to have a cat that sorta walked on a leash.
we let him roam around close by on a leash. i used to let him go loose when he was younger but he would get into too much trouble and its not worth the risk with cars driving fast down the street or him running into a predator

the other cats aren't mine, they are just strays that like to hang out with him

looks nummy. Are those Greek Dolmothes??

stuffed grape leaves is the american term but each different culture/ethnicity refers to them a bit different. greeks call them dolmothes

I call them "wahart Areesh" which literally translates to "paper of the grape vine" .. italians, jews, japanese, syrians, lebanese, balkans, etc. all have their own versions. anywhere that grows grape vines. if you have a grape vine you can just take the grape leaves off the vine and make your own version that way. as long as the leaves are thin and soft you are good.

really you can stuff them any way you want. this recipe calls for beef, rice, cinnamon, salt, pepper and parsley. I also make a veggie version that has tomato, parsley and rice only which is good too

I might have to try making those. I do not have grape leaves. Wonder where you can buy them? You steam them after you wrap?

I buy mine from a local meditarrean store. they are easy to find, BUT its hard to find good ones that are free of preservatives and chemicals.

the brand i get has just the leaves and salt, nothing else. so that is what you should look for. might have to shop at a few places to find the right ones, also plenty online to buy .. amazon has options but 80% are low quality so check the ingredients before buying

here is the recipe below. the only difference for me is i dont use butter and i add parsley and i use half the amount of salt and more lemon to give it more of a punch

once you bring the pot to a boil lower the heat as outlined and it takes about 1 hour to cook. i will use a thin piece of meat at the bottom of the pot to prevent the leaves from burning at the bottom of the pot.

I just remember having cats take off when I was a kid and they would sometimes come back all messed up. One came back in really bad shape. Got hit by a car. I try to never let my cats out but they are so sneaky!

I have a whole bag of almond flour. I need to figure out what to make with it.
Grab some boneless skinless chicken strips and an egg dip the chicken in the egg and roll it in the almond flour and toss it in the air fryer, it makes excellent healthy chicken tenders

yesterday was an awesome workout session, quick and to the point
i used this bicep machine for the first time on my last set after training back and arms

made sure i did a nice warmup
started out with pullups. 10X3 sets
then did rows 3 sets 100-120 pounds for reps
then did standing curls 4 sets
then this machine 3 sets

then it was on to decline situps with a medicine ball and then roman chairs to balance things out.

then had a nice stretching session

woke up middle of the night with sore biceps, haven't had sore biceps in a LONG TIME. all it takes is trying a new machine or going at a different angle to freak your body out

also notice how flat my muscles look, that is what happens when you fast 24+ hours going into a workout. vascularity also down. completely normal. you are essentially robbing your muscles of glyocgen stores so when you eat they will fill back up. the body has mechanisms in place for survival. now had i eaten carbs before the workout my muscles would be more vascular and full. meal timing absolutely makes a difference.

after i came home i broke my fast with some fruit and my muscles actually seemed to grow as the glycogen stores filled back up where if i bent my arm i could feel the bicep popping out. bottom line is if you want to experience more pumps and bigger muscles and strength temporarily then carb up pre workout, if you want to workout with more intensity and an empty stomach where you feel more 'bouncy' and are okay with flatter muscles do a long fast before weight training.

@stevesmi you do a lot of fasting so you're a true beast mode
very hard to train like that but you push it easy

arms are huge if you ask me considering you recently did big fasts as well :)

you got some huge arms for your size

can still see some good vascularity

looks like your body fat is super low I would say 8% most

keep up the good work we're proud of you you're pushing it hard

looking forward to seeing your next update maybe some food pictures

@stevesmi Good update steve........

leg day had me sweating and panting for air

started out with some treadmill fast paced walking
then did box squats on a bench 4 sets to failure holding 80-100 pound dumbbells (arms were actually sore next day from holding them)
then did walking lunges holding 55-65 pounds in each hand knees tapping the ground around the gym
that workout alone was enough to have me huffing and puffing on the ground lol and my shirt was already drenched.

then did 3 sets leg extensions
hip flexors on the machine
and then hit the lower legs on both sides

then did some hardcore stretching
did another 70 minutes cardio as well

picked up a chicken and did more fajitas with guac, lettuce and fody bbq sauce. amazing!

tomorrow gonna do pull day !

Are you going to train for a triathlon or something?

Are you going to train for a triathlon or something?
i don't see myself competing again... those days are long gone.

i ease off cardio during the summer cause its too damn hot

but once the temps start dropping i'm all in on cardio. dylan suggested this stack as a great cardio, endurance and recovery stack. plus lean muscle.

so i'm gonna see what i can do with it

I don't think I've ever heard about that one sarm on the top.

The ACP is the one that can cause vision issues?

i've used gw many times. it is great for endurance we all know that. it also can help with fat loss very well although i much prefer it for endurance

AC is good for muscle growth, endurance and performance
ACP is good for recovery, recomp and energy

haven't used those 2 yet so will see what happens
