If you're taking a Calcium Supplement, it's important to take Vitamin D with it.
Without the Vitamin D, the Calcium doesn't absorb properly and goes to the Kidneys where it can cause Kidney Stones.

So 1,000 Mg a Day in 2~500 Mg doses is best for anyone up to Age 50, after that it's 1,200 Mg in 2~600 Mg doses ~ this is for Calcium.

I'm a firm believer if you work out and don't live in a Southern Climate and get Direct Sunlight Exposure every Day.
Then you should be taking 5,000 Iu's of Vit~D~3 a day.
As I live in Philly, I take 10,000 Iu's every day in winter, and then 5,000 Iu's in Summer.
Most People are Vitamin D ~ Deficient............................................... JP
P.S.
I also take Magnesium with my Calcium.
As Magnesium increases Absorption of the Calcium.
So around 200 Mg of Magnesium Chelate with 500 Mg of Calcium Citrate.

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. It accounts for 1.5% of your total body weight. It is very important.

I recommend everyone take 3 calcium magnesium with vitamin d tablets 3 times a day, with meals. You don't need to buy a fancy calcium supplement. I get mine at Costco.
