I can do DB lunges but it's a little awkward because I'm still limited with the weight I can hold with my left arm. So I end up off balance with a heavier DB in my right hand. I do try to fit them in once a week though.
Still can't hold a BB for front or back squats because of shoulder strain...
Haven't had a chance to update the log in about a week. My daughter was home from college so I was spending time with her and work has been crazy. It's taken all my spare time just to make it to the gym and meal prep.
Making slow progress on upper body, I'm increasing weight very slowly to be...
Got busy yesterday and didn't post my workout. Right now as I'm easing back into lifting, I'm pretty much completing 3 sets of equal reps. As I start to progress in weight and fail in later sets I will note that in the log by listing each set separately.
I'm lowering the volume a little for...
He said he thinks I'll get back to normal lifting including overhead press but he had some warnings. He said always press with my internal rotation and hands in front of my body. So more more military presses but I should be ok with DBs or machines that allow for internal rotation
It's a tough call. Its really an individual decision based on the severity of the injury and the limitations you may be willing to deal with long term. I think in my situation surgery was the best option. We'll see how it works out in the long run.
I weighed the pros and cons, got a few different opinions and did a ton of research. The doc I chose was the most conservative, even though he recommended surgery, his arthroscopic procedure was the least invasive. There was enough of a tear that surgery was required for me to get back to the...
Weighed in at 180lbs this morning. Up about 5lbs in the last week, likely due to increase in carbs and a little water
Cardio only today
15 minutes of stretching/rolling
Tried rowing machine but the repetitive motion is still a little much for my shoulder.
1 hr on treadmill - 30 min flat...
Its a big space in a strip mall. I'm not sure what is was used for prior to being a gym. It does have a lot of different areas and rooms. Down that hall in the background are the locker rooms and bathrooms, a couple rooms with hydromassage machines and some rooms they use for storage. They...
Posting a few starting pics for the log
Just to show the work I've put in already, this was about 4 months ago. After my second surgery I started eating like shit and drinking a lot
This was about 2 weeks ago after losing close to 30 lbs
These are from this morning. I felt a little...
I was back in the gym today. My weights are still pretty light, especially upper body. As mentioned previously I use a lot of machines that allow me to either isolate each side or compensate with my good shoulder while minimally working my recovery side. I'm not going very heavy on my good side...
I had my first surgery a little over a year ago and was told minimum 6 month recovery time. The first 4-6 weeks is arm in a sling 24x7 with as little movement as possible, then easing into some movement and rotational/range of motion exercises. About 3 months post surgery I was able to start...
I tried carnivore for a while as well and I really liked it. I felt really good but mentally it was tough eating only meat day after day. It didn't impact my training a ton because my body is accustomed to low carb training. I've done lot of low carb and keto over the years
I had a torn rotator...
I like it. I was fooled into using the expensive blends and other junk for a while but I've gone back to plain old monohydrate. Bulk Supplements is a solid company, it works well, I don't get bloated. And it's a really good deal on Amazon
I know I'm not burning a ton of calories in my workout, probably 300-400 tops between lifting and cardio. But I train fasted, my last meal is 10-12 hours before my workout. I also don't eat carbs later in the day so my stores are pretty depleted after my workout
I know a lot of guys recommend...
Thanks Steve. I know you're not a fan of processed foods like bread. When I'm cutting hard, I do take it completely out of my diet. In a bulk or recomp I'll add a little in but not very much. I'm not gluten sensitive or anything so I don't notice any gut or inflammation issues
Thanks for the feedback. When I was in a hard cut, I was under 100g carbs but now that I've leaned down I'm going to add a little more in. Once my shoulder heals more and I want to start packing on more muscle I'll start increase calories with more carbs
Sorry for the long post, just want to explain some things regarding my diet.
I know I'll catch a little shit for some of the processed food. I do try to eat 90% whole foods but I throw in things like bagels for post workout carbs and protein bars/shakes for quick on the go protein if needed. I...
