I stopped drinking protein shakes for the same reason about 2 months ago. Everything got better, even my sleep. I just added in more real food; chicken breasts, tuna, etc.
I've recently cut my workouts down from 1.5h to 1h and now down into the 45min range and honestly, I feel much better after and even the next day. I go all out for that 45mins and I put everything I have into each rep, each set.
