It might be a powerlifting thing. We just use RPE and RIR interchangeably as I said. You can have RPE 9.5 might mean 0 more reps but slightly more weight.

I disagree with this point. For strength training RPE is interchangeable with RIR. RPE 8 = RIR 2 etc. Cardio RPE which is where RPE originated from on the 6-20 scale was designed to closely match heart rate and can be more subjective.
