Proper calcium dosage questions

I had been taking multi v that contain calcium plus calcium on the side without realizing too much calcium give you side effects like nauseas and constipation. For how long should I stop taking my supps? I stopped 4 days ago but still feel like I can go to the bathroom well. I'm going to try some fiber and digestive enzymes like you guys here alwys suggest. Any other thoughts?
 
Most minerals have the same absorption mechanism in the body. Taking too much of a certain mineral will prevent the absorption of other minerals because they will compete for absorption. It is actually best to take your calcium supplement away from your regular multivitamin to get the best absorption that way.

I would take a multivitamin twice a day and a calcium supplement once per day. You could take the multivitamin with breakfast and dinner and the calcium supplement with lunch. Something like that. Any more then that is going to be counterproductive and lead to GI issues.

If you are constipated - try supplementing with 10g of psyllium husk before bed. I use it every single day and never have a problem with being regular.

Psyllium husk is the highest natural food source of soluble fibre you can obtain. The majority of the fibre you intake from your daily diet is insoluble fibre. The key benefit of soluble fibre is that soluble fibre absorbs water in your stomach and creates a gel. It gives your intestines a sort of 'internal scrubbing' as it passes through. It will help keep you regular and the faster you can remove toxins from your body, the less likely they are to be re-absorbed.
 
@muskate is right - better use a multi-vitamin that won't have calcium in it, as it is best to take them apart for best absorption rates. Usually, I take all of my supps, vitamins and minerals spaced out throughout the day, and avoid taking them all together for this precise reason.
