    Sugar or sweetners in protein

A bit of a noob question and I suspect the answer is simple, but what are the effects of sweetener in protein shakes. The one I'm currently using has sucralose in it (toffee flavoured and my word it tastes dangerously sweet), and others from the same brand (My Protein) use steviol glycosides.

Sugar is the devil when it comes to wanting to lose excess fat, so I wanted to ask through this forum of any facts out there as to whether I should continue to use it.

I'm not pounding down things with artificial sweeteners all day, so I don't worry about the little bit in my whey protein isolate shakes to be honest.

I've seen some research suggest that the body can sometimes respond as though it was sugar. Buy unflavoured and it's not an issue.

companies add sweeteners to protein powder because if they didn't it would taste bittery

the issue is about selling their product to the 20 something naive crowd. almost all protein powders on the market are as nutritious as just eating ice cream and that isn't saying much due to the high amount of sugar, HFCS, hydrogenated oils, etc. the top selling protein right now has all of the above and in no way shape or form going to be productive to your goals in fitness

so stick to REAL FOOD first and add n2generate daily.

A little bit of artificial sweeteners in your protein is fine. I have a shake each day that has them. I also have a sweet potato each day that I put stevia and cinnamon in. Domt go overboard on sweeteners and keep the intake to sensible and they are a powerful useful tool for dieting

Eh, I'd stay away from those. I've read studies that have said even something like splenda has a possibility of raising your blood sugar aka making you developing insulin resistance. Just eat clean/whole foods.
