24 hour fasting

I just read Steve artical here Steve mention 3 type diet protocal.....1protocal I know which was IF and but other two ? If I don't eat protine during prolong fasting or 24 hour fasting then muscle loss will not occer? 2nd body goes to survival mode which is catabolic .I want to do 24 hours fasting what is the protocal....plz tell me

I did a day 10 fast myself. which means I ate nothing for 10 days. no I didn't lose all my muscle. In fact now I am more muscular and more stronger then i was before.. because my body as a whole became stronger from the health benefits of doing my fast. do i look tiny in my avatar?

the article you read lays out how to do it. but I will explain and give you an extra tip below:

if you do a 24 hour fast you would eat a normal dinner, then not eat again till dinner the next day. these are really good at boosting immune system and detoxing your body. what you can drink within the fast besides water is mixing apple cider vinegar, cream of tartar (for potassium), and salt, with a touch of lime. this would be something that wouldn't break your fast at all and will keep you hydrated.

this idea that you magically lose muscle from not eating protein every 2 hours was invented by the food companies and supplement companies to sell you protein powder and bcaa's and all that other shit.

you can also listen to our HARDCORE podcasts where Matt is doing a 24 hour fast once a week and he gets into it.

PS: if you are using SARM's or steroids there will be zero catabolism while in a fast. you will lose body fat and water weight, but you won't lose an ounce of muscle I promise you. if I can do it for 10 days, anyone can do it for 24 hours.

also we will be having Dr. Gerry on our regular podcast next week who is a whiz at fasting, if you have ANY QUESTIONS about fasting you need to submit them on this thread or the thread you will see tomorrow linked to my article, or message myself, mason, or muskate. this is your opportunity to pick the brain of someone who knows more about this shit than anyone you will ever meet.

What are the quantities for the ingredient in the apple cider vinegar drink?

During a fast, you don't want to drink anything caloric as that will take you out of the fast.

I would just drink the apple cider vinegar straight. You could add things like sea salt but you wouldn't want to add anything like honey etc.

What are the quantities for the ingredient in the apple cider vinegar drink?

my personal recipe during a fast to curb cravings and not break a water fast if you do intermittent fasting, 24 hour fasting or prolonged fasting

12oz water
2 tbs apple cider vinegar (increases mineral absorption, helps curb sugar cravings, balances insulin, etc)
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar (potassium for minerals to prevent weakness and balances electrolytes, also helps block addictions to all kinds of things)
1/2 teaspoon iodized salt (balances electrolytes, since you are in a fast you won't get salt from food so you need it)
1 lime (optional, technically you would break your prolonged fast but during an intermittent fast or 24 hour it won't trigger insulin response so you can add it without the world coming to an end, also it helps to increase detoxing!)
1 tablet LIQUID magnesium (200-400mg)

if you are an athlete who is sweating a lot and need to hydrate use the same recipe above but take out the apple cider vinegar and drop the lime to just 0-2 drops in your drink, depending on what you can tolerate

when i do hot yoga, or jogging in hot weather this is the drink i put together to re-hydrate as I am sweating out all my shit.. it really works amazingly well

Will you lose muscle........sure. You will lose some. In the end you have to decide if that is something you are willing to live with. The muscle loss will be minimal with only doing 24 hour fasts. If you were to do a 10 day fast you would lose a bit more but I bet you would look more muscular with the body fat that was lost.
 
In addition to the well elaborated answer by @stevesmi, I got to add my opinion on muscle loss. I think people overrate the muscle loss due to lack of protein. What causes muscle loss the most is the lack of physical activity. If the body will see that these muscles are used, it will not decrease them all that fast, even in the absence of protein.
 
So I just read the fasting article and was wondering about the meal after the 24 hour fast. What should it be? A large pizza? Just curious about what you guys are eating after a fast.

matt discussed this in our most recent hardcore podcast which should be published in a couple days

i think 2-3 good quality eggs with an avocado and some nuts is a good idea. good fats teach your body to utilize fat for energy.

if you do a prolonged fast your digestion system is going to be shutdown hard, so you should be very careful what you eat. when i came off my 10 day fast i had grassfed bone broth as my first meal with veggies
