Bodybuilding & Spirituality

We're all human. Whether you're Jay Cutler, a billionaire, or the average joe we all feel the pain of life, and the pleasures, the highs and the lows whether it's with gym progress or lack thereof or the stresses we all deal with day to day outside the gym.
One thing few people talk about in terms of bodybuilding is the spirit and how important it is to keep the "heart" and mind healthy. I personally at times find myself so overwhelmed by life and negative energy in my life that I go literally months without doing a damn thing pretty much. My heart isn't in it because I'm weighed down by a heavy heart or a fear that keeps me from focussing on my progress or even kills my appetite right in the middle of a bulking cycle.
Whatever the case may be we all deal with it and an "out of shape" spirit can lead to problems of all kinds. Cleaning the drama and negativity from your life can result in amazing things.
Let this be a thread about mind over matter, beating the odds, and keeping a positive thought pattern. Post your experiences and feel free to tell how you deal with life and stay positive.

I dig this jack! There is so much negativity in the world these days and not enough positive.

Always look at the brighter side of things, fellas!

we all need to find the coping mechanisms that work for each one of us...
personally, i HIGHLY recommend meditation... it has been life changing for me

It's easy to lose focus at times because of things in life that happen. We all have our own lives with families, work, finances, our lifestyle choice and everything else that we do on a day to day basis. We will all have ups and downs, and for me it's all about finding that balance between them all to be the best I can at each one. It's not easy to be the best husband and father I can sometimes, but I make that my priority first and foremost. I've been guilty of getting too wrapped up in my personal fitness goals in the past, but I've become better with it over time. What really helps me most is to try to always look at the positive side, and count my blessings for what I have, instead of worrying about what I don't.

Bodybuilding just like anything else takes commitment, focus and time. These 3 things can be greatly affected by day to acitvities including self-defeating spirit. Although I find BB to be a lot of work, it is work that I truely love. One thing that I have to remind myself of sometimes is that this is truely a marathon and not a sprint, just like life. I am going to have my ups and downs, my good days my bad days, days were I feel I can kick Mike Tyson's ass and days where I can't even bring myself to lift a weight.

Fortunatley thou there is one common thread to all of this. I ALWAYS FEEL GOOD AFTER A WORKOUT. It is a blessing that God has givin me to relieve stress, motivate myself and get back on track. I truely dont know what I would do if I was handicapped and could not workout. I would be in big trouble.

Slowly inching towards my goals on a daily basis gives me hope. It tells me I can accomplish something with hard work and dedication. That feeling of self-respect and increased self-esteem that comes with that cant be put into words. That to me is spiritual.

My glass is NEVER half empty, I'm a fucking live for crying out loud. I will always give no matter what!!!! It heals the heart and mind. I may not get anything in return and that is ok, for when my time comes and it matter most, I will have been rewarded!

Oh and sorry, i have to add. I am selfish about 1 thing and that is the gym, THAT'S MY PLACE OF ZEN!!! Oh and I lust after the female body, shhh!!!!

It's been a saving grave at time. If it had been for the gym a fews yrs back while going thru a divorce from a 20 yr marriage, who know where I'd be.

You know it would've been so easy to turn to booze and say fuck the world. So happy I stuck to the iron! It was the best therapy to keep my mind clear,to keep taking care of the people who were depending on me.

Bodybuilding and prayer saved my life. I went from hanging with the wrong crew to playing sports and having a coach take me in as his own. I also prayed for redemption, motivation and the power to do what is right.

wait, are you saying Jay Cutler, the bodybuilder? is a billionaire? that guy is only worth a few mils max.

Spirituality is important to me, more so than bodybuilding because without it I would have nothing. I'm a recovering drug addict and alcoholic coming up on 7yrs of sobriety next month. Spirituality and bodybuilding has literally saved my life.....even though I take this shit to extremes now lol

As long as you have things in your life that you prioritize more than bbing I'd say you'll be just fine. It's the obsessive compulsive nature if it that gets people in trouble.

Even if you are a pro - it's still just a job. Your health and your family are more important than any job or hobby; the latter being what most of us do this for.

I typically use working out as a bit of an escape from everyday life. I am an introverted guy who likes the quiet and being alone sometimes. My home gym provides this for me.... I love it

When you look your best you tend to feel your best. There are greater things that surround us than life itself and this will help you be humble. When you are in tune with your body you tend to be more sensitive to spiritual things imho.

Family keeps me stoked on life, when the chips are down or I just feel average I chill with my family and everything becomes irrelevant. However I do live life very positively, as I believe I'm very fortunate to be alive, of great health and have everything I have.... One Other thing I do when I'm having a bad day, something's up or what not - is go to my happy place and that's the beach, as a surfer, the beach has always been a place of peace and enjoyment and it refreshes the soul.

Stay humble folks and love life!
