dead bodybuilders

I stopped training in 1999 so all these bodybuilding deaths really got to me when I found out. I was a national level middleweight in the 90's and had a lot of friends around the country that I met at competions. I knew Eric Fromm pretty well, he was a cool dude. I also competed against Eric Otero once but never spoke to him. I also lost two good friends, one my old training partner who was an ifbb pro womans bb. I'm shocked most though by the stupid explanations for these deaths. It seems that all these bb's had an underlying health condition that cause their deaths and it had nothing to do with all the drugs needed to compete at a high level. Otero had a heart problem, Flex had a genetic kidney disease, Newman got leukemia because it just happened and gh, insulin et played no part, Fromm died of an overdose so that has nothing to do with competitive bb even though drugs like nubain have started countless bbs down the road of addiction. Then you have this complete idiot zyzz who at 22 has a heart attack in a sauna. But, it again is blamed on a genetic heart condition. All I have to say is give me a fuckin break. Yes, people can get sick, it happens. But to bury you're head in the sand and not come to the conclusion that steroids and more so other bb drugs can be extremely dangerous is very short sighted. I, personally, have now come to the conclusion that competitive bb is completely stupid and totally dangerous. I named a few bbs with health problems and who have died. But the list goes on and on. There are countless guys I know with health concerns, addiction problems and problems with life in general all caused by bb. Bb can be great if used to improve your life. But everyone needs to be responsible. My advice to a young bb would be forget competitive bb and go play football or something.

I Totally Agree, you must use your Common Sense, and your Big Brain.
To many Guys using their Little Brain................... JP
P.S.
I Love the part at the End, go play Football, or something.
P.S.S.
Like saying, Yeah go get a Concussion ! (lol)

So baseball or tennis or anything but competitive bodybuilding. If I had a son who wanted to get into competitive bb I would lock him in a room until he changed his mind. There is nit a more unhealthy sport out there. I would rather him become a race car driver or even a fighter pilot. And, there is no money in bb. In the late 90's I was one of the best middleweight in the whole country but the only opportunity I had to make any money was to pose for gay dudes or be willing to let them suck me off or whatever. Something I couldn't bring myself to do although in my quest to turn pro I did seriously consider it. I know a bb who did gay porno to buy his drugs. And things like that are normal in high level bb. It's fuckin crazy considering that a bbs chances of making any money are slim and none. All the bbs I know or knew, including myself, either sold drugs, stripped for men and/or woman, or did gay shit to afford all the drugs. I mean I would do these crazy things like selling drugs or stripping to pay for all my drugs, food, supplements, travel expenses ect. For a contest and receive a trophy and a few pics in a magazine or two. The whole thing is nuts.

I agree. I used to compete in the 1990s and early 2000s at the national level as well....And the shit we did back then was fucking retarded. I stayed on full cycle for 3-4 years straight. And the dosages I used were atronomical; I would just eat a handful of Drols before working out; I would pin 2-3 times a day. It was nothing to take 3 grams a week. I was lucky enough to have gotten out of it unscathed. However, I know some of my friends back in the day who did not get out unscathed. The one dude has an enlarged heart and hypertension in the lungs. he cannot ever lift again and he is like, 45 years old. Oh, I know lots of people who spent weeks in the hospital with fucked up liver values, irregular heartbeats, etc.. Looking back at it, it was not worth all the headaches that come with it. The entire lifestyle is so time consuming that it made me anti-social. Never leaving the house except to go to work and to train, and never engaging in any social functions is not a good thing. Just being isolated like that proves that it is not a healthy sport. The cost does indeed out weigh the reward...

so do you lift still? just not for comps?
I just started training again and I am going to use aas again but not at the level that I used to. I do believe they can be used safely and I believe that aas are probably the safest of all the bb drugs out there. All I'm saying is use your head, this stuff is dangerous and shouldn't be used with impunity if you want a long healthy life.

Max had no idea you were "a national level middleweight in the 90's", Congrats !!!

Wow, you just described my life. Antisocial and problems with relationships. I went through girlfriends like tee shirts because they would get fed up with me. I had problems with my family because I would do crazy things like not go to a family dinner because I needed to eat a certain way or whatever. That is what I mean by competitive bb being unhealthy in so many ways. Not only physically but mentally unhealthy.

Thanks, but actually it's not something that I'm proud of. I actually threw all my pictures and stuff away when I found out my old trainig partner committed suicide.

I described your life to a (T) because I had the same life as you. It is an all-around dysfunctional lifestyle.

i always worried about health issues from aas as well because because of people like zyzz and lots of pro wrestler dying so young but your saying if it is used responsibly it is relativly safe? for example i do maybe one 3 month cycle a years.

So in a nut shell. Recreational-yes. Professional/competitive-no.
Yes. Keep it in perspective. Check yourself every so often. There is more to life than bodybuilding and putting another inch on your arms. Bodybuilding can be addictive and I have realized that I probably had some kind of body dysmorphia. I was 5'6" over 200 pounds but wouldn't take my sweatshirt off cause I thought I was small. Fuckin crazy!!

It is sad that the BB died from health issues. Competitive bodybuilding can be dangerous ... however its what they loved to do and what they were good at and did what it took to acheive what they wanted.

I mean I'm not a dr. But I really don't think a few cycles a year of some test or whatever is going to cause you problems. The problem is keeping it in perspective and competitive bb makes people go crazy. Everyone starts with a little test or a few dbols. Like I said try to step back and look at your life every so often. If bb is improving your life great but if it's controlling your life you have a problem.

i just watched a video of bostin lyod's stack and its an absurd amount of drugs. Rich piana as well
If Boston Lord keeps that up he will die very young. The sad part is young kids are watching him and probably listening to his crazy advice. He has no plan at all he is doing the kitchen sink approach. Just take everything you can afford and something is bound to work. And he is coaching people! What a joke.

good thread

but I will say this is why its stupid for guys who don't make a living in this game or who compete to run roids year round .. if you use responsibly and cycle its the safest way to do it.

I see guys running 600+ tren a week.. its ridiculous and they don't even compete or make a living doing this.. I just don't understand it

You ought to appreciate this story, I have told it numerous times. I met Dennis Newman one time and he was anxious to assert about his steroid use and to give some rather bad advice. He said, "take everything you can get your hands on, and take as much as you can tolerate. Don't believe there are drugs just for bulking and just for cutting." I walked away and said to myself, "that guy is fucking nuts"!

I hear you. I started lifting weights almost 10 years ago and I was about 145lbs. Years later I was over 200lbs with abs and in my eyes I was still small. Like you said. Crazy ass shit
