I like Luimarco and Jerry out of all the fitness youtube guru's for the most part. these videos gave me some thought

this holiday season you are going to run into uncles/aunts/cousins/siblings/friends who are going to muscle and diet shame you.

what that means is they are out of shape/fat and they will give you a hard time because you choose not to eat/drink slop or you choose to workout on a holiday or because you have a lot of muscle etc etc.

I've had to deal with a lot of this over the years because of my strict diet and because of my success in lifting. on forums as well you will run into these types of people who like to shame others for what they eat or how they look out of jealousy. also keep in mind we live in a society that views obese people are normal and its cool to have heart attacks and be fat.

here are the best tips to survive the holidays around friends/family without going crazy

1. avoid negative people. this might mean avoiding social media
2. if someone makes a smartass remark to you then smile and ignore
3. keep visits short and avoid discussing your diet or your training, those people are not interested in what you have to say otherwise they wouldn't be in bad shape to begin with
4. simply walk away
5. don't be confrontational because that is what they are after.

its a very touch subject especially going into New Years with people wanting to do new years resolutions and then disappearing after a week or two at the gym when they figure out they are going nowhere cause their diet sucks . hope this helps!

Thanks stevesmi great advice and great video I to like Luimarco and I like to follow the same philosophy be the better man
an animal in the gym and a gentleman outside of it

My whole family is alpha, inlaws included hahaha. Just change the subject, with a compliment to them. People have a hard timr giving you shot when you show them compassion.

time, shit. I hate you apple. Maybe you can make a keyboard for man hands instead of hipsters that ride fixies and grow akward mustaches.

Haha this happens to me every year. I just look at them and remind myself why I do what I do.

It's a strange phenomenon, but I've run into it plenty of times before- out of shape people looking down their noses at people who try to better themselves physically.
Would they judge me if I was taking night classes to get another college degree? Would they judge me if I was taking lessons to learn play the guitar? Would they judge me if all my free time was spent wrenching on a race car, that I only took to the drag strip 3 or 4 times a year? I've found that they don't. They sure do get judgmental about me working out and taking care of my body though. Seems strange since they're usually the same people that can tell you all the stats about all the current sportsball players, spend their time eating crap and playing video games, and spend their extra money on drinking beer or buying all the new electronic gadgets that will be obsolete in 6 months. I don't make fun of them for that.
I usually wear long sleeves when going to holiday gatherings, and I'll have a couple beers so I don't look like a fitness snob. They've started to accept me.

About to happen to me in 5 minutes when my office busts out our Thanksgiving meal for co-workers. Gotta love the CONSTANT pressure to just "have a little bit". Trying to explain that you're in prep to an out of shape person is like explaining algebra to a 2 year old.

Word Midnight nice post. I was thinking the same thing yesterday. All the guys at my work know every stat and fantasy football trade but are terribly out of shape. I was thinking about this very thing yesterday. Funny I don't know shit about organized sports and yet physically leave these guys in the dust. Weird social commentary! Truth > fiction

It's funny because I work with someone who thinks he knows everything. He is about half my size. Sometimes at lunch we sit down together he with some heavy unlean meal and me with my chicken breasts and rice. He will argue any point like "KFC is ok if your working out because the body needs fat" I just pretend to listen and not comment. He is would rather be right than actually learn something. Not to be rude, But I usually find myself having to change the subject a lot with people when it comes to diet unless I feel they really want to hear me

I for one am going to eat everything I see tomorrow, minus pie. But I get it all the time other wise. Every time I stop by the folks house, what I hear the whole time I'm there. Have you ate today? Are you hungry? You better eat! Im going to deep fry some fat and smother it in fat, your going to eat right? Come here and drink bacon grease!... And after all the yes ive ate, no im not eating that, someone somewhere hits a reset button on them and it starts over.
Great advice though man, great points.

my old office job they would have 3 boxes of dunkin donuts every morning.. the ones with crème inside and with sugar sprinkled all over the place. at that time I wasn't even a health nut but I still avoided that crap cause it would make me sick eating it

if you have beers then they might shame you for doing that. "hey I thought you didn't drink Mr muscleman?" so its like either way they find a way to shame, they don't understand the concept of moderation.

Good point, it's a catch 22. But at least after a couple beers they'll be a little easier to tolerate. :)

God, at least my family doesn't give me that hard of a time, maybe some funny looks when I'm turning down aunt Susan's gravy or something, but it's not that bad. Work, that's another story. I'm a walking joke around here cause I'm the only one with self discipline and perseverance who takes care of themselves. I get made fun of almost daily because I won't eat doughnuts for breakfast. WTF? Really?

When it comes to holidays, I indulge, and enjoy myself. I don't restrict myself to certain foods or pay any attention to my macros. I enjoy the time with my family and enjoy the food that comes with it. Everybody is going to have their own different ways to handle the holidays and all the bad food, but having a day to enjoy is not going to set you back one bit in the grand scope of things. I've been doing it for years with zero consequences. You might hold a little temporary extra water the next day, but jumping back to your diet puts you right back on track again to where you were. I don't ever restrict myself unless I'm going to be in prep or something.

I know a lot of guys like to stay strict all the time, and that's fine if that works for them and that's what they want to do.
