I realize nutrition topics are boring (people want to talk steroids) but I try to put 1 up atleast once a month and if you follow my log you will see me posting up recipes all the time and discussing proper nutrition as much as possible on the podcast.

Over the years I have pleaded with people to stop buying low quality eggs and other low quality foods. I've always said to make sure you buy the eggs that are HUMANE FRIENDLY. it must have that sticker on the carton otherwise you are part of the problem. when you buy low quality eggs from corporate slop farms that torture chickens, cut off their beaks, starve them, keep them in cages, etc. then there is no incentive for farms to change their ways. And as I correctly predicted 15 years ago when i first started writing about this stuff, you will end up with the problem we now have in America with egg and chicken prices going through the roof and not available because of the Avian flu which has wiped out tons of birds.

I was told by the IIFYM crowd that 'an egg is an egg'.. umm.. no its not
Chickens that are properly outdoors, pecking, not overcrowded and kept healthy are less suspeptible to disease.. just like how any other animal would have better immune systems and not spread disease.

high quality eggs should have a nice orange glow to the yolk. you should also never overcook eggs including over boiling them. the yolk should be runny and that is okay because when you buy high quality eggs they won't carry salmonella and other food borne bacteria. I can instantly tell just by tasting an egg if the chicken was fed crap or fed a natural diet. you will notice a chemical taste to walmart quality eggs while high quality eggs will have a fresh taste to them. I can only compare it to the difference between eating fresh caught wild fish vs. aquarium raised fish swimming in their own shit. I cannot tell you how many people i have met who hate eating fish, but when i make them FRESH caught fish they say it tastes like the best chicken they have had in their life.

In Europe and Australia they follow certain standards when it comes to farming. When i travel to other countries the food tastes different and better. its what they are feeding the animals and how they are living. in the USA due to corporate greed and corporate farms there are very low standards to our food and this surely will not be changing any time soon. so YOU must make the correct choices when buying your food. keep in mind also low quality chicken carries a very high amount of polyunsaturated fat which not only clogs in the outside of your arteries but also the insides too. but guess what? environment the chicken was raised in, diet, and even genetics of the bird will determine how much it will contain and that cheap walmart chicken you buy is the bottom of the pecking order (no pun intended). ... discuss this with any cardiologist and they will say they have given up trying to convince people how to make smarter choices. 95% of the chicken sold in american everyday is low quality and we wonder why people are having multiple heart attacks and cardiologists are so busy unclogging arteries. Same goes for grain finished beef vs. grass finished. You might as well eat candy because that is how poor the nutrition is in low quality foods vs. high quality.

Great write up brother.
I only buy local free range eggs and you can definitely tell the difference just in the yolk. We actually prefer our friends duck eggs but they are only a treat now since they are quite high in fat with less whites.
I also only buy Grass fed premium beef and the difference is night and day 🙌
Even the grind on the premium mince doesn't clump and release a heap of unwanted fats in the pan.
Always buy the best you can afford 🙌🙌

And yes I'm in Australia.. great organic farm and meat produce. Also lucky when you can grab a half a beast butchered off you friends every now and then 😂 (half a cow)
yes man the Australians on here have incredible diets and eat healthy.

that is why Australia is way down on the list of obese countries and things like heart disease, diabetes etc.

your food is more expensive but it is much higher quality.

people in North America will spend thousands on their cycles, cars, pools and big houses.. but will try and save $1 or $2 on their food choices and it makes no sense especially when higher quality diet will better allow you to reach your goals.

Don't get me wrong.. we still get absolute crap in the shopping centres that are pumped full of crap or gassed to keep colour etc but if you still to a good local butcher you are normally good and to be honest with the price gouging that has been happening here since covid, the butchers are now on par or cheaper then the big markets ( in our town anyway)
We have organic pesticide free farms around that will deliver to your door weekly also or pick up locations.

Pic is from some of our Grass fed premium beef mince that we use weekly for meal prep.

An advantage of age and a couple of spare quid means I can try out what might be called upgrades food wise. By way of an example I had, last weekend, quite possibly the NICEST burger in a bun I've ever had. Grass fed and age beef vs bog standard. Aided by a better bun and a heck of a mayo (made by the team using beef dripping). LOADS better than the stuff most burger vans buy from wholesalers.

Something Stevesmi and I have discussed is getting a good relationship going with your butcher and greengrocer. Ditto buying DIRECT from some farmers

100% brother.. it's a game changer

Bro, real men eat grass fed beef

We’ve been raising grass fed beef on ranch for 400 years. The farmers who raised their cattle on grain and people who eat that fake shit are a bunch of pussies.

@stevesmi everything you said is fact bro but here is the problem, its a financial issue, most guys CANNOT afford to eat all grass fed and high quality food due to money straight up fact
70% of guys struggling to buy day to day meal prep too, keep this in mind

I've seen that argued and would dispute it.

One recent video I saw (yesterday) argued that buying the ingredients for a sandwich was $26 vs just buying a sandwich. But neglected to mention that the 'left over' would be enough to make multiple sandwiches. There are US homes where NO actual food gets cooked from scratch. Like show kitchens.

The US side also forget that they have, in spite of how much they bitch about it, the cheapest 'gas' and food vs wages/income of most developed countries.

It is no effort at all to buy in bulk. It's a LITTLE bit of work to build a relationship with a local small business food provider. We used to have a local fella that dropped off 6-7 2 dozen grass and free range eggs to my local gym for forward selling to the members. Lidls and Aldis do 5kg/11lb trays of chicken breasts. I just restarted having meat delivered.

By way of example in my latest delivery it included 3 x 18oz mixed grills for £13.99 or about $18. It also included 2 x 12oz (yes 12) RibEye steaks for £13 which is cheaper than 2 x 8oz from a supermarket.

Finally how come, as discussed on the podcasts, we're all happy to have gym memberships and also spend (typically) $1000 on a cycle and then don't want to pony up a few extra bucks for better food. Plus you should be eating less additional garbage so have more to pony up anyway.

Well eggs cost more in the first place because of the avian flu. The reason for this problem is because people keep buying the cheap eggs. So in the long run it’s costing more. Plus like I said people can’t spend a buck ur two more a pound for quality but can afford steroids. Makes no sense. If ur in this game you can afford it.

I 100% agree with you! I saw a show that Jamie Oliver did once about this years ago, and it forever changed the way I purchase eggs and chicken, free range only. Awesome article bro, I can tell you are genuinely concerns about this. Thanks for the info!

Nutrition shouldn't be [email protected]'s the most important thing.

Feeding your body is crucial.

i always get high quality eggs. luckily i live in a state with high food standards and i can buy a lot of things locally as california has a lot of organic farms

Great posts for sure.

I know exactly what you mean, eggs definitely tastes better. That are more high quality.

if you are a smart shopper it won't cost you much more and in a lot of cases its cheaper to buy quality.
