Veteran Thread High quality eggs, chicken, beef. the difference is real. nutrition post of the month

Veteran Discussion
But in states there is a service tax on food served to you. So fast food is still taxed. It’s just super cheap so that lower income can still eat out remain unhealthy! Why can’t we have healthy fast foods?? Lol.

there are places that try and do a more healthy options but they have very tight margins.

I know a guy who started his own donut shop which turned into several locations and will likely eventually be franchised although its gonna be tough to compete against duncan or other big donuts places.. the way he made it work was he would get there at 3am and make donuts fresh and when they ran out, they ran out and the place closes usually around 10 or 11am max. this way he doesn't have to worry about having to throw out food by making too many. it was a big hit and had long lines but its donuts. i don't think you could pull that same thing off for normal food, customers would get pissed showing up and it being closed. also the stress of that schedule led to his divorce.

i do also know a place that started out with 1 location and now is 20. their concept was healthy fast food where you walk up and tell them what you want in your salad or wrap etc. the problem is still that they use olive oil. now olive oil might be less bad then other oils that other fast food places use, but it still is gonna clog up your heart over time. also olive oil is something i am skeptical of as it is legal for companies to only have a certain % as pure olive oil. i've eaten there a couple times years ago and wasn't that impressed, although it was pretty decent health wise. but it wasn't anything that i couldn't make on my own and taste better.

i'm very OCD so i don't like other people touching my food anyway, so for me i don't need 'fast food' or want it. i've eaten out once in the past 5 years no joke.

we also have to remember that MOST people don't give a flying fuck about their health. I'm not deluded enough to think that most people do. even people who use steroids, most don't care about their health that is just the facts. if they did they wouldn't ignore the nasty bloodwork i see from them and put their heads in the sand. as i always say on the podcast with mobster we can control what we can control. one area is that we can make smarter choices on what we put in our bodies. but also as I'm trying to illustrate if more people make smarter choices it benefits everyone else.

even though most don't care, there are a lot of people who DO care about their health, i can tell this because the less unhealthy snacks and drinks get bought up fast. example yesterday i went in there to buy my vegan cheese (all the other brands are not good options) and of course it was out of stock. usually if i am lucky i might find 1 in stock and snatch it but people do know. a big reason is apps will help you make smarter choices, the app i use is called YUKA and it will scan items to help you find a better option on things. another example is i scanned a bunch of jams yesterday and out of the 12 i scanned only 2 scanned good. and this was at a health food store, so you can imagine out of the 20 you would find at a regular supermarket, likely all 20 would scan bad. these types of little choices can go a long way

I realize nutrition topics are boring (people want to talk steroids) but I try to put 1 up atleast once a month and if you follow my log you will see me posting up recipes all the time and discussing proper nutrition as much as possible on the podcast.

Over the years I have pleaded with people to stop buying low quality eggs and other low quality foods. I've always said to make sure you buy the eggs that are HUMANE FRIENDLY. it must have that sticker on the carton otherwise you are part of the problem. when you buy low quality eggs from corporate slop farms that torture chickens, cut off their beaks, starve them, keep them in cages, etc. then there is no incentive for farms to change their ways. And as I correctly predicted 15 years ago when i first started writing about this stuff, you will end up with the problem we now have in America with egg and chicken prices going through the roof and not available because of the Avian flu which has wiped out tons of birds.

I was told by the IIFYM crowd that 'an egg is an egg'.. umm.. no its not
Chickens that are properly outdoors, pecking, not overcrowded and kept healthy are less suspeptible to disease.. just like how any other animal would have better immune systems and not spread disease.

high quality eggs should have a nice orange glow to the yolk. you should also never overcook eggs including over boiling them. the yolk should be runny and that is okay because when you buy high quality eggs they won't carry salmonella and other food borne bacteria. I can instantly tell just by tasting an egg if the chicken was fed crap or fed a natural diet. you will notice a chemical taste to walmart quality eggs while high quality eggs will have a fresh taste to them. I can only compare it to the difference between eating fresh caught wild fish vs. aquarium raised fish swimming in their own shit. I cannot tell you how many people i have met who hate eating fish, but when i make them FRESH caught fish they say it tastes like the best chicken they have had in their life.

In Europe and Australia they follow certain standards when it comes to farming. When i travel to other countries the food tastes different and better. its what they are feeding the animals and how they are living. in the USA due to corporate greed and corporate farms there are very low standards to our food and this surely will not be changing any time soon. so YOU must make the correct choices when buying your food. keep in mind also low quality chicken carries a very high amount of polyunsaturated fat which not only clogs in the outside of your arteries but also the insides too. but guess what? environment the chicken was raised in, diet, and even genetics of the bird will determine how much it will contain and that cheap walmart chicken you buy is the bottom of the pecking order (no pun intended). ... discuss this with any cardiologist and they will say they have given up trying to convince people how to make smarter choices. 95% of the chicken sold in american everyday is low quality and we wonder why people are having multiple heart attacks and cardiologists are so busy unclogging arteries. Same goes for grain finished beef vs. grass finished. You might as well eat candy because that is how poor the nutrition is in low quality foods vs. high quality.
@stevesmi eating clean foods is the number one thing!

yeah in your parts you have a lot of good family farms, i'm sure you can get some of the best stuff for sure

thankfully where i live there is a family farm to the north that has been in the business for 300 some years or some crazy amount of time, and they have stuck to their guns and stayed grassfed.. they also closed off a large portion of their land to prevent development and protecting the rivers and nature around it. they sell their stuff to WF and a few of the chains so its a win/win for all. when people eat at my place they think i am some great chef, but i'm not.. its just that the beef and steak i cook comes from that place vs. the chemical crap they are used to eating
Yeah we have farms all over, thankfully much like you, a good amount of framers have stuck with the free range and grass grazing methods, yeah the one lady i know her farm is unique in the fact its free for people to come and pet some of the animals, she has all sorts of different kinds, once her cows get to a certain stage she has to make room for babies when they happen, so that is when she will offer up parts of the cow for people to buy. I have had store bought vs actual farm grown and it is night and day, from the way it looks and feels and tastes, makes me wounder why stores can get away with selling the lowest of low quality. Ive pretty much just been patiently waiting for spring because that is when i will get the qt cow, i hope eating that gor a long time will make my body feel better and recover better since im fueling it better.

I might have to use that app now im very curious as to what choices ive been making and how i can make better ones, i do buy only a few simple things for meal prep, still if i can make it healthier and better over time for the inside of my body that is a win.

Thanks
