How did Greg Valentino get so much fame?

I see that Greg Valentino is discussed quite often in the bodybuilding community, but I wonder why so? He is just a freak, and I don't recall him having any special merits in our sport. Why do people even pay attention to him? May be I don't know something special about his career?

I think his initial 15 minutes of fame were when he was featured on TV as "the man whose arms exploded" due to synthol use. Might have been on 60 Minutes, I honestly don't remember. This was back 15-20 years ago when synthol was less known

I think he took that notoriety and created a persona around it, created a brand for himself, and now he is popular fitness personality

I am going to be writing an article about him next

there is a lot of controversy behind him

the exploding arms, the arrest for dealing steroids and that image of him in handcuffs with his head down, his accent and stereotype of the asshole new yawker, his ridiculous stories he talks about, etc etc.

recently he was fired from muscle sport mag and he actually got into a fight with his boss lol.. he also says he is broke and has no money so he has to hustle for a living doing things for people... the guy is the all around broke italian asshole from NY and a lot of guys gravitate to that.

I like Gregg.. Guy has a tonne of charisma and hes not afraid to call ppl out on bullshit.. I think besides that doco is the thing that made him famous is his ability to speak freely.. Be it a good thing or bad

My personal opinion is that he is a freak, and people always like to watch them for one reason, or another. Besides, some of his vids seem funny to me, so that might also be the reason some people watch him and pay attention to him.

There are others who've injected shot here and there. But Gregg had shape before, has a personality and he can TALK! He's also been friends with some very high level pros.

Greg is a personality. He's so popular because he has a good sense of humour and isn't scared to speak his mind.

Listen to any interview with him and he's a straight shooter. He has no problem telling it like it is. I've never met Greg but he comes off as really genuine.

It's kind of like Rich Piana. He has never really done anything in the sport of bodybuilding but he is really popular and has a huge following.
