I've a book - Testosterone Dreams. The writer... kinda sucks. It's like you can 100% tell he lectures at a University. Clever, lots of great research, but it still kinda sucks. Anyway a few points are ok. One relates to how the various anti-drug orgs really need to look at the history of PED use. Like right back... all the damn way lol
I've written before about how during the ancient (original) Olympic Games you can find written evidence of arguments about sandals vs bare feet. Ditto eating bulls testicles c1400bc and the Egyptians (an early testosterone therapy idea?). Another was consuming figs for energy. Booze (brandy) and 'magic mushrooms were used by the Greeks themselves. Beserkers used bufotein to enhance 'rage off'.
So-called Victorian Gentlemen (of all countries) circa the late 1900's were speed and coked off their tits. And belladonna, strychnine, nitroglycerine and 'morphine. The whole damn Victorian medical cabinet lol
Later early modern games had one of the first drug fails be in 1968 for '2 beers to clam their nerves' by a Swedish athlete.
One point I've made before was how full blown 'nattys' like to claim how Golden age bodybuilding heroes never use steroids, GI recently had one of their posts state quite clearly that steroids were NOT used in 1950's. Stevesmi and I did a podcast (and referenced it in more since) were I cited Golden Era Bookworm proved the famous John Grimek DID try them. John D Fair provided proof of it and also wrote a HUGE piece on York Barbell and John Zieglars role in the development and use of DBol.
I've also written how Charles Edouard Brown-Sequard tried injecting testicular extracts (dog and gerbil testes extracts) as did a baseball player trying the mix. On our show we included an image from ad in (huge in it's day) Popular Science magazine for Methyl Test in the 1930's. Bodybuilding magazines, such as Health & Strength, had ads for hormone boosters in the mid 1930's. So well before 1950
I can carry on. Those in charge need reminding and those who deny it's use need to wake up
