I hurt my back Snowboarding! :(

Well my brother was home last weekend... And a large group of us went snowboarding, me and several others for the first time.

Well while coming down at one point I fell(I fell maybe 200 time) but this one was bad my board stayed along the ground, but my upper torso rotated. My back popped quite a bit up the spine between my shoulder blades.

Hurt a little but not too bad.

Well since then Monday wasnt too bad, and on and off I have had some pain. Nothing horrible, but it worries me.

My back between a little lower than my shoulderblades hurts often, I cant really get comfortable, but certain positions do remove the pain.

I have had my father put icy hot on my back down the sides, my friends and him think its a pulled muscle.(I pulled my lower back once and swore I hurt my spinal cord...it was just the swelling had compressed my spine and was causing pain).

Icy hot helps, and alot of ibuprofin helps. I also have taken some Naproxen(once a day) and even used a Soma(muscle relaxer). Upon taking the Soma I napped out, woke up feeling no pain until I started moving(supports the pulled muscle theory).

I am just worried. My back has popped a little bit , maybe once a day. Always a diff spot and when it does it feels a little better each time. Just worried I hurt my spine, but every one tells me if I had done something to the spine itself I would likely know because the pain would be more intense.

Okay My father says there is a lump in the muscle to the left f my spine where it hurts the most. My question is, can that muscle swelling and being inflamed put pressure on my spine causing it the pain?

I mean I have full range of motion, can bend touch my toes, rotate my torso, reach up behind my head. All pretty pain free, its just idle pain.

The problem is No insurance atm....I should have some but my company keeps putting off me and about 6 other guys hire on dates.... When that happens, I am gona rape some insurance for my dental

But I am planning on calling a chiropractor tomorrow and getting an appointment. They are fairly cheap(in medical terms) and I can get checked out and an x-ray for about 250-300 bucks. Plus since there is no major pain my experienced friends said even if something is slightly off, they just work it back in though it may take a few visits and hurt a bit, but afterwards I will be fine.

Any input? I mean I function pretty normal. Oh and on a side note, the first two days of work last week(this happend on Saturday) Mon and Tues the pain went around my rib cage to where when I breathed sometimes it hurt. Which I had pulled a muscle before and that is how it felt.

Freaking A I hate how fragile the human body can be, but I am putting my faith in how strong it is as well and how it can recover.

So any one who is willing to input I will be happy, and anyone who is willing to pray for me and reach up to God I will really appreciate it.

I also posted this at ology, but you all iz my family and not all of you are over there :)

Once you get that insurance in place you really need to get an MRI done on your back. In the meantime maybe the chiropractor can tweak it back into place. I hope you start to feel better! Keep the ibuprofin and muscle relaxers going. I usually take something like a percocet and muscle relaxer... taking the perc. allows for pain management and anti inflammatory.

I dont have percs, but I do have a couple bottles of Vicoden(all prescribed over time lol). I think I will be downing those, a Soma a day(its from a family member who has an old stash from their back problems but dont need me anymore), and lotsa Ibuprofen. I have Naproxen(anti inflamatory) but I swear ibuprofen works better.

Cant wait to call tomorrow, hopefully I can get in fast, and get some X-rays done. And on top of that, I am hoping it all comes back clear, just some pulled muscles or the likes.

As for an MRI, even with insurance not sure I can afford one lol.

Sounds like you may have a rib out. Whenever I have a rib out, I always feel it in my chest. That could explain the lump on the side of your spine.

and best way to keep the backpain away is always core work . abs , abs , abs .
it´s actually guite often the reason for many backaches lies on the opposite side of body . weak abs give in and cause allkinds of trouble on back . this all said w the assumption there´s nothing wrong on the back that prevents strenghtening . abwork is easy to try and see if it helps though . in my case it helps always .

Zero, is it getting any better yet?

Wasnt....but today I took off work, and when I went to the Chiro and he adjusted me...Wow feeling pretty good now! Feeling about 75% now. HUGE increase since Monday when I was literally unable to move.

Only problem is now I can feel that I pulled a muscle deep between my left shoulder and the spine. My left arm sucks atm. And have a pinched nerve I have to work lose. lol.

But for the most part, the worst pain comes from the pulled muscle.

Looking up, by next Sat I may be 100% "feeling" but then its physical therapy kinda things. Stretches, light motions, etc.

Zero there is an accident coverage insurance available from Aflac. 3 or 4 guys from my gym have it, its basically like 5-6 dollars a week, and it will completely cover any doctor/chiro visits when you are injured. You might want to look into the details. It's worth a shot.

Hope you get to feelin better

Really? Well I get hired on at work this week and will get ACTUAL INSURANCE

lol. But I have heard good things about Aflac, but its seemingly hard to get insurance as an individual without getting raped.

my buddy keeps trying to get me to sign up, but i just dont wanna shell out the premium. its hard to sell me on something ive gone without. i got insurance thru my job anyway, but the idea of completely covered chiro visits does appeal to me. however i dont know that its worth it without being injured or being prone to injury and then who knows what the rate would climb to. insurance is evil lol

Each adjustment is 40 bucks. So eventually when I am 100% back to full health(roughly a month) I am actually going to keep coming monthly for maintenance...40 bucks a month to have my back adjusted like that. So painfully good!

I know people who spend that in one week on McDonalds, I think I can justify spending it on a Chiro.

So far total treatment cost has been 180 bucks....not too shabby for a sprained spine.

That includes X-rays, an examination, 3 adjustments so far(M,Tue,F) Two Stim treatments(electrodes on the back, oh man it feels so good).

So not bad...helluvalot better than what a Doctor or the ER would have ran me just to tell me to go see a Chiropractor anyways.

I used to have the most powerful core on my wrestling team lol. Invincible(sadly my arms sucked). Thats my goal again, to be able to stand there like I used to and let my buddies wail away on my stomach until it hurts their fists...oh my prime......damn I am old for 24..

Hope it works out for you and your back to 100% soon!
LOL on you being 24 and wishing for your prime. Now that your already saying this what you going to say in 10-20 years. So right sadly that people do spend $40 and more at places like "Fat-Donalds. Also right about the ER soaking you to do nothing but tell you to go see a chiro, and thats only after they send you everywhere for every test possible.

Aflac is good stuff. The company I work for just got a contract with them and I pay $22/month for me and my wife for accident coverage. They pay you cash for your injury.

Have you been soaking in the tub with epsom salt or hot tub? That may help speed along the recovery with that pinched nerve.

I should check into that just for the chiro coverage, I havent been to one in years because of the cost.

As of today, after last nights adjustment...I feel alive again. Finally can get moving on the boards again because I can sit in a chair again!

Let me tell you how embarrassing to struggle more than an 80 year old woman when I try to get out of the car....-.- lol

But now I can catch up on the friends and NTBM family!

One more week and I should be reaching 90% Currently I still cant bend and I have no strength in my arms due to if I push or pull I put pressure on nerves and OMGROFLMAGARGLBAH not fun.

i hear you man. when my back was out my girl would help me with socks and shoes lol.. i felt pathetic. but its good to know youre back!

and you remember slow and steady wins the race, give it a bit more time i am sure you will be fine :)

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. There is no pain like back pain. You can't explain to someone how bad that **** hurts! Hope you feel better soon bro!
