Importance of lactose?

When i am looking at different whey proteins I can see that almost all have lactose in them. Is lactose needed to build muscle? Will lack of lactose make my progress slower?

Just want to know because i am allergic to lactose and cant consume it at all.
 
You don't need lactose, it's just another sugar. Whey protein isolate should not have lactose though. You really shouldn't need protein powders in the first place though. It is far better to get your protein from whole foods.

Quite the opposite. Most people can't digest lactose.

No, lactose is definitely not needed. Its actually not something you really want much if any of at all
