Methylene Blue

I will be trying this one. Will add to my log.

I think if people got more sleep and avoided a lot of the junky foods and that would go a much longer way of having a healthier lifestyle.

I wouldn't use a product like this without a lot of reading up on legitimate reviews from people.

I just don't trust most supplements out there.

What is the TLDR on this supplement that seems to be in the news?

Methylene blue has several potential health benefits, though its use in medicine requires caution, as it can have side effects if not administered correctly. Here's a more detailed look at its health-related uses:

1.

  • What it is: Methemoglobinemia is a condition where hemoglobin, the molecule that carries oxygen in the blood, becomes oxidized and unable to effectively release oxygen to tissues.
  • How methylene blue helps: Methylene blue works as a reducing agent, converting methemoglobin back to its normal form (hemoglobin), thus improving the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. It is commonly used in emergencies to treat this condition.
  • Administration: It is typically administered intravenously in hospitals under medical supervision.

2.

  • Cognitive Function and Alzheimer's Disease: Research has been investigating methylene blue’s role in protecting neurons and improving brain function. Some studies suggest that it might help in diseases like Alzheimer’s by reducing oxidative stress, which can damage brain cells.
  • Mitochondrial Health: Methylene blue has been found to support mitochondrial function. Since mitochondria are the powerhouses of cells, improving their function may help protect against cognitive decline and age-related diseases.
  • Memory Enhancement: Some studies suggest that at low doses, methylene blue might improve memory and cognitive function, potentially offering benefits for those with cognitive impairment, though these effects are still being studied.

3.

  • Methylene blue has antioxidant effects, helping to neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress in the body. This property may contribute to its potential neuroprotective effects and general health benefits, especially for conditions associated with oxidative damage.

4.

  • Methylene blue has been used historically to treat infections due to its antimicrobial properties. It can be effective against some bacteria and fungi, although it is not commonly used as a primary treatment today.
  • It has also been used to treat urinary tract infections and as a topical antiseptic in certain cases.

5.

  • Methylene blue has been used in combination with other drugs to treat UTIs. It works by acting as a mild antiseptic, though more effective and targeted treatments are generally preferred for UTI management.

6.

  • Some preliminary studies have explored the use of methylene blue in cancer therapy. It has been shown to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in some cancer cells, and its ability to enhance mitochondrial function might also make it useful in preventing cancer cell survival. However, this is still an emerging area of research and should not be considered a standard cancer treatment.

7.

  • Some studies suggest that methylene blue may have an impact on mood and energy levels due to its role in mitochondrial function and its effects on brain chemistry. However, these effects are not well established and more research is needed to fully understand how it might impact mental health.

Risks and Side Effects:

While methylene blue can offer health benefits, it is important to note potential risks:

  • Overdose: High doses of methylene blue can cause serious side effects, including nausea, vomiting, confusion, and even more severe reactions like serotonin syndrome (especially when combined with certain medications like antidepressants).
  • Coloration of Urine: It can turn the urine a blue or green color, which is harmless but can be alarming.
  • Interaction with Medications: Methylene blue can interact with certain medications, including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), leading to a risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially dangerous condition.
  • G6PD Deficiency: People with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency should avoid methylene blue, as it can cause hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells).

Dosage and Administration:

  • The exact dosage and form depend on the specific health condition being treated, and it should always be used under medical supervision.
  • For methemoglobinemia, the typical dose is around 1–2 mg/kg administered intravenously. For cognitive or neuroprotective uses, lower doses might be explored, but these uses are still under investigation.

Conclusion:

While methylene blue has potential therapeutic effects for various conditions, including cognitive health, methemoglobinemia, and infection treatment, its use should be carefully monitored, especially given its potential for serious side effects at high doses or when combined with other medications. Always consult a healthcare professional before using methylene blue for any health-related purpose.

Anyone use it? Opinions. Useful or waste of money?

Thanks.
@PrinceDaddy yes I have been using it for years. I have had it administered by IV and orally. I believe in it!

I don't think it's a supplement that makes much sense.
Seems like it's a gimmick to me.
Just have a big glass of water.im very sceptical of these type of things with no real life research and no safety profiles to go by.

@Seventieschild im sceptical as well bro but seems real user feedback is real, you going to try it?
No brother I won't be trying it,I'm sticking to the basics,I'm a simple guy and use what works for my purpose, like, test, nandrolones,DHT dirivatives,a bit of GH and the occasional oral compound.
A few basic ancillaries and Friday night pizza or broasters and that's it bro.
