This is a good article about Mike Mentzer. It talks about his life and steroid use, which has been a point of controversy. Read on...

Mike Mentzer really revolutionized training. His "Heavy Duty" training protocol lead the way to Dorian Yate's Blood and Guts training and later Dante Trudel's Doggcrapp training.

He was the first person to question the insanely high volume routines guys in his day were doing and started to question if maybe less is more when it comes to volume.

I personally am a higher volume training guy myself but I completely agree with Mike Mentor that training QUALITY is much more important then QUANTITY.

Think about a carpenter who uses his biceps all day to swing a hammer. His arm is lean and strong, but it isn't big. Think of a sprinter who focuses on short bursts of explosiveness (similar to weight lifting). His leg muscles are much larger then an endurance runner's.

bro mike mentzer was a beast...IMO his HIT training is probably the most innovative training method out there....even for guys with poor genetics

I am true fan of Mike, as he was not only good in the sport, he was also pretty smart and intellectual, which allowed him to create new training routines and question the established routines. All in all, a very interesting personality. Thanks for the good article.

Amazing to Mike Mentzer

Mike was the first guy, I ever saw pose in real life! I recall, sitting there and all the house lights went very dim.
The stage was dark. Music began to play, a spot light from above shown down on this harden rock statue, then it began to slowly
spin and move! It was only then, it came to me, "Holy Hell! That is a real human, not a statue! How can this be?!"
I was only 17 then, I was blown away! I saw, I think, it was, the 1985 O, on vidieo tape, between Arnold and Mike. IMO, Mike blew Arnold away!
I did not know Mike had given into his dark side, in his 40's. Those damn 3 packs of smokes per day! I'm sure they shorten his life. How sad!

Mike Mentzer was an amazing poser and a very smart guy. It was his drug habit that ruined him.

Mike is a beast. That guy was a true fucking athelete. He just busted his ass like nobodies business.
