Morning guys, I'm a first time gear buyer, and I was curious, will money gram, ask what the money is for or what your buying? Sounds like a silly question, but I always like to be prepared

they ask yes. but its usually an is it for family, commercial or friend sort of deal. they have zero rights to ask what the money is being sent for other than that. Same with western union if you ever have to use them. personally I'm a cash in mail person. less risk that way

They usually ask. Just say you are sending money to a friend. They won't ask any other further questions.

they ask because they are worried that you are being ripped off cause of 419 scams which cost gullible Americans many millions every year. 419 scams are the "you won the lottery, please send $500 to collect" for example mostly sent via email.

just tell them its for family, end of discussion. you aren't doing anything wrong sending money overseas, but if you ran a business and your customers were getting ripped off all the time you would want to step in and prevent it

I always say it's to my wife's family, whatever the country. It's also somewhat fun to chat the person up, knowing a fair amount about my world nations and all

But no, it is not a question on the form, and is something they ask to reduce scams. That is all.

While I've had WU ask All the Time.

MG at least in my area, are all owned by Mom and Pop Stores who are Foreign themselves.
So they've never asked me where the Money is Going.
But that probably changes Region to Region.

I do the same as everyone else, tell them it's for a Family Member.............................. JP

Just come up with some credible story, as they will never check it out, not will they be able to.

if anything they will ask " do you know this person" if it's to some foreign country, just say yes and thats that.

You don't have to be elaborate....just simple answers is fine.

I use WU and they did ask me if I was being forced to send the the money. I replied no... keep it simple like aggirl suggested. Also, have a buddy that was asked if he knew the person. He said yes and uses the same story to keep it simple and not get tripped up. Still, they will not check out the story. They are more focused on when their next break will be.

They have to ask because I tell them am buying parts and I've used them before they never have a problem with that
