its called 'surf fishing'
you need a long rod and you need a 3-5oz weight. that will prevent waves from moving it unless the swell is really bad.
usually you walk out waist high and throw it as far as you can then walk the rod back and place it in the holder and tighten up the line and wait till the rod tips where a fish is on.
its a very fun way to fish and i love it because there isn't anyone to bother you (most fisherman tend to be annoying) but the downside is you get wet, sandy, cold and you have to lug all your shit there and back. it also can get frustrating cause you lose a lot of weights and hooks from rocks or from bad casts etc. and salt gets into our rod/reel which will eventually ruin it. you have to make sure you flush your equipment with fresh water after and the next day so its time consuming. and its an expensive way to fish! but as i said not dealing with assholes is 100% worth it and its peaceful
i'm not sure what type of fish they catch there, ask the guy next time.. i've seen some YT vids of guys catching some small fish that are supposed to be really good in Cali. i know where i live we have a lot of different types you can catch off the beach, even big fish like sharks, barracuda and jacks. i would watch them fish and keep an eye of their rig, weight size, hook size, and bait. if they have success copy what he is doing and then you will have some fresh cat food
Oh good I’m glad you live near the ocean I feel for people who don’t. I have to be near ocean the middle of the country gives me anxiety.

I know there great white sharks out there. Every once in a while they eat a surfer.
Yep and You can’t swim there it’s very dangerous. The currents ( as you can tell from the video) a treacherous. But they hardcore boys do surf out there regardless. My aunt used to surf out there in the 60s It’s and area over by the rocks. Wet suit required of course.
Every few years when there’s an El Niño the water warms up ( not warm just a couple degrees warmer) and the fog goes away and it’s usually sept Oct and that’s our Indian summer anyway… but I’ve seen these rare record days where it’s 85-90 on the beach and people have campfires into the evening and it’s amazing. But that’s a rare day and gray cherished putting the city in awe of the moment. ( San Franciscans are very dramatic about everything it’s the history)
