What are you toughts on this topic??? I heard its better to fast one hour after your workout and dont drink any whey because of the insulin spike you get!!!

Terrible idea. Post workout your body is depleted of amino acids and you are in a negative nitrogen retention state. Your body is very inclined to loose muscle mass during this period. You want to take a high quality protein source (such as a whey isolate), as soon as you are done your workout.

Insulin is not like a light switch. Your body is CONSTANTLY releasing insulin. Carbohydrates cause the greatest insulin release but proteins and fats also raise insulin levels. Whoever told you to fast after your workout does not understand human physiology at all.

If you are cutting - you are going to want to use a pure whey isolate that is virtually free of all carbohydrates and fat. There are a lot of good products on the market. The one I am currently using is isolation from n2bm.com

I disagree with muskate. The big metabolic window debate which goes back and fourth and will for years from now. I don't eat for awhile after my workouts sometimes. If I do its cause I'm generally hungry. I try to avoid protein powders as well. Not saying I don't take them but its usually only to fulfill my caloric intake for the day and I'm in a pinch for sustenance. Im not doing it for any other reason than that. Also I highly disagree with you'll lose muscle mass because you didn't take in a shake right after working out. If that was the case id be a skinny man!

After training the bodys demand for nutrients is at its highest so you need to feed it.

I always have a shake after training but that is mostly habit. I used to train at 5am fasted so I wanted to get something in quickly after. I don't think you ever really "need" a shake. As long as you are getting a meal in sometime after you train you would be fine. It comes down to convenience for a lot of guys too.

In any case, even if you fast during one hour after the workout, you can't deny the need to replentish all the nutrients later on. There will be one difference, nontheless, your body won't be as inclined to absorb them as it will right after the workout. Hence, it is best to get all you need right after the workout.

I hear and understand both sides here 100%.
For me....I drink a shake post workout that contains 25g protein and about 30g of carbs. There are a few reasons I like this approach....first, I train at night in most cases and this post workout shake fills me up while helping me recover. I only eat one more time after this.
Second, I feel that I look fuller and better when using a shake post workout.

Just my opinion
