Overdosing on protein

Is it possible to ingest too much protein? If so what is the limit before we start to face complications. I have some school friends who are taking in 500+grams of protein a day saying it will make them grow quicker is that true?
 
too much protein can be as bad as not enough in terms of free testosterone levels.
and i'd venture to say that no one on this board would recommend anywhere near 500 grams/day.

I'll agree his school mates are morons. But I don't think you can overdose.
 
if you ask most guys in the gym or on forums they will tell you that you need an absurd amount of protein a day to grow. that just isn't true

a weight lifter only needs between .6 and .75g per pound of body weight. so a 200 pound dude needs 120-150g a day.. THAT IS ALL

supp companies want to sell protein powder so they started coming out with the protein myth that you need some crazy amounts.
 
Over dosing on protein isn't going to make you sick or anything like that but it's a waste of money and it's going to cause major GI issues - bloating, constipation etc.

There is no reason to eat more then 1g of protein per pound of body weight.

That's a lot of chicken wings, eggs, protein powder, what are they "supposedly" consuming to get that many grams of protein per day? Maybe one time on a bet but I'm skeptical that's happening daily.
