That's a very complicated question which can have many complicated answers. Ideally, when you're very active, you'll want to ingest proteins every 2-3 hours. Most people find it easier to replace a meal with a quick chug for 2-3 of those meals per day (I know I do, but I still get 5 whole meals). Other factors are timing, as in which is the best TIME to ingest proteins. Again, complicated to explain. Isolate is best immediately after a workout (and during) since it's easily and quickly digested and sent to the muscles for rebuilding/repairing. Isolate is also good for taking immediately upon waking (even mixing a little casein in for the next few hours). Casein and egg proteins are better for lasting throughout longer hours of the day, or through the night while you sleep. Like I said, there is a plethora of little sciences, chemicals, and hormones involved to answer your question. It looks like a simple question, and it really is, but explaining it is no small detail. lol Hope this helped a little.

Post workout is the most crucial time to get in your protein, but as others have said spacing your meals accordingly to get in the right nutrients every two to three hours throughout the day is ideal.
