nah arnold did more than that man. i've read he used almost a gram of primo and handfuls of dbol at a time. he also likely used plenty of deca especially in the offseason along with proviron.
i actually interviewed frank zane on my podcast and my co host at the time had the balls enough to ask him twice how much gear he was on, frank was extremely irritated by the question and defensive. i did study enough psychology to know getting defensive like that is a red flag that you are lying. but whatever. he probably used what arnold used
in the 70's if you wanted gear you went to a doctor and got gear in small to moderate amounts. you also kept your business to yourself because you didn't want to tip off your competition and there was zero incentive to be open about that sort of thing.
You got what was available .. pretty much the only steroids you could access were primo, deca, proviron, and dbol. that is it. in the 80's more steroids become available like dbol and parabolan and things like hgh were being used by ones in the know. it's not like you had a boatload of options to choose from because there weren't underground labs and there wasn't an internet where you could just order any type of steroid you want and as much as you wanted with a click of the mouse and pay with a cryptocurrency
so yeah things today are much easier when it comes to availability of steroids and underground labs are coming up with any type of steroid you want and any type of blend that you want. and let's be honest, they aren't that expensive.
so i'm pretty sure in that era if guys had the same ease of access of steroids as we do today they would have used more and more, whatever it took to be on the cover of Magazines or win competitions and get sponsorships. Also bodybuilding wasn't lucrative in those days so there was no motivation to go that extra mile like there is today. Some of these guys are making easily a million dollars a year today, in those days they made shit. hence why Arnold and others went to hollywood to make the real $$$$
also another thing to think about is we've gone full circle with steroid use. meaning I believe the peak of steroid use has passed us and guys are using less than they did five years ago. The reason is guys like Boston Lloyd and Dallas McCarver and Rich Piana who were abusing the crap out of steroids ended up either being extremely sick, dead, or they realized it's not amount the amount of gear you're using but it's about genetics and other factors as well. they realized that less is more so although there are using way more than the guys in the 70s used they're using less than guys use five or even 10 years ago. in any event yes mr olympia level guys are using a shit load of everything and its chemical warfare, but how else do you end up 280 pounds with 5% body fat? Samir Bannout won the Mr. Olympia at 195 pounds, today he would be laughed off stage and look tiny next to guys like Hadi, Big Ramy, or Lunsford so lets be honest about the reality lol
