Stevia

Is it just me or is this stuff nasty? I've always hated Aspartame and cannot stand Splenda but good god man... Stevia is f-ing terrible. Bitter w/ a funky after taste

I got a dozen samples of different flavored whey proteins... all sweetened with stevia. I tried two earlier in this week in separate shakes and they were easy enough to choke down but they definitely did not taste great.

I just added another sample to some cottage cheese and added a splash of water.

God, this stuff could not taste worse... it is gut wrenching. Add in the fact that it's an Orange Cream flavor and it feels like I'm eating some sort of Orange scented cleaning product.

If I wasn't stuck in the office right now without anything else to eat ,I'd just throw this away but instead I'm starving and I need sustenance...

Yep it has a Natural Strong sweet taste accompanied by a Bitter "stemmy" after taste.

Thats why the new "Sun Crystals" has just enough Sugar in it to piggy back unto the Stevia but take out the bite.

its a good idea and works.

yep. the sun crystals is pretty good and as long as your not on a serous cut your all set. i make berry juices with it a couple times per day. 1 cup mixed berries, 2 packets sun crystals, and just enough water to get it to liquify in the blender.

I never eat sugar, I only use stevia and agave nectar. I like the taste of it. I guess if you have real sugar to compare it to, maybe it tastes nasty, but I havent ever found it to be "gut wrenching". Orange cream stevia protein, water and cottage cheese sounds pretty nasty though.

It had a strong chemical taste and smell like orangesol cleaner... it was terrible.

Orange cream protein, cottage and a splash of water to mix is actually really good, just without the stevia.

I have a couple different liquid stevias, and have also used truvia and neither one taste "awful" to me.

Maybe it's just me then. I've heart some have different bitter receptors on their tongues and in turn can find Stevia to be distasteful.

It could also be these proteins I got. I hate to bash a company but I might as well post to see if others have tried them.

Anyway, I bought 25 lbs. of unflavored WPC/WPI from trueprotein.com. The protein is top notch so let make that clear it's just that I was unsure what flavorings I wanted so I also picked up their Natural flavoring sampler (50g scoops of whey sweetened with stevia). I've tried three flavors so far and each one had a distinct funk to them, the orange cream was the worst... probably because I mixed with cottage cheese instead of choking it down with milk or water. My brother smelt it and almost gagged... it was really that bad.

Anyway, for the time being I'm flavoring with SF Torani syrups which are fantastic. I'll give TP.com's Premium flavorings a shot as they use Splenda... I've always disliked splenda but the Sugar Free Torani's use spelnda so it cannot hurt to try.

If anyone else has suggestions I'm all ears.

I like buying unflavored protein to mix in a fruit smoothie. Just toss in what ever frozen fruit you want and blend then your good to go. Most of the time no extra sweetener is necessary.

I make blended shakes with nf milk, unflavored whey, and fruit but for just a quick shake when I don't have time to blend I need some sort of flavoring. Stevia based flavorings just don't seem to be the answer.
