Whey Protein Isolate vs Mass Gainer

Trying to bulk up for Xmas and get huge. Cannot get both whey and mass gainer, have to choose 1 or the other. Which is the best to get good mass? I can use same amount of both I guess maybe.

whats the rest of your diet like?

I ask because getting 'huge' isn't about a simple comparison of WPI vs mass gainer.... its about the bigger picture - your whole diet in its entirety. .... depending on your whole diet either a WPI product or a mass gainer could be just as beneficial as each other....

Post it up mate.... :-)

Well, depends what do you need.

Whey is used when you need more protein in your diet. Mass gainer helps when you need to collect calories.

In terms of 'mass gains', I would go with a gainer. But its pretty easy to get those calories in and I would rather invest money into whey

you should read the ingredients and choose properly. mass gainers sold by supplement companies are very calorie dense because they use a lot of sugars and have a ton of other crap you don't want in your body. do you want to build mass sloppy and have stomach problems?

you are much better served making your own 'shake' at home. you can youtube some good ideas but it really isn't hard at all and you will be investing in your health that way.

Unless you are a powerlifter who is just trying to put on mass and doesnt carry about body fat levels, a whey isolate shake is WAY WAY WAY better then any mass gainer.

Read the first ingredient of any weight gainer and you will most likely read maltodextrin. Maltodextrin has a higher glycemic index then table sugar. It will spike insulin levels and promote fat storage.

Any mass gainer shake is going to be full of low quality carbohydrates and oils as fillers. It is pretty much a sure way to get fat.

Your best option is to make your own high calorie shake. It'll be much cheaper, and provide much more nutrients then any mass gainer type of shake.

Buy a high quality blender and blend together the following:
2 scoops of a high quality protein powder such as wheytobuildmuscle from n2bm.com
http://needtobuildmuscle.com/store/P...scle-p290.html
oatmeal
natural almond butter or peanut butter
frozen fruit
banana
ice
chia/flax seeds
spinach/kale

You can easily make the shake 800 calories and drink it for breakfast.

If you want to gain just any mass, including fat and water retention, then obviously mass gainers would be a better choice, since they contain a lot of additives and sugars that are not needed for a healthy and lean athlete. Meanwhile, whey isolate has no carbs or fats in it, so it will only promote lean mass gains, that is - gains of higher quality. Therefore, better stick to a product made completely with whey isolate, such as the Isolation by n2bm. It has no artificial sweetners, nor additives, and it is made completely with whey isolate, which is the purest form of whey protein. Therefore, you would benefit much more and would get much healthier results with whey isolate.

I would go with a 100% Whey Isolate for a Quality Protein.

Then like Muskate posted, you can Add in other Quality Ingredients for Extra Calories.

Mass Gainers are mostly Crap Fillers and Artificial Sweeteners + Low Quality Protein Concentrate and Calcium Caseinate.

Instead of Whey Isolate and Micellar Casein.

And if you find a Good One, you'll pay through the Nose for very few servings........................................... JP

The main reason mass gainers are selling is all due to the convenience and availability.
Making your own high carb high calorie and high protein shakes at home are much easier on your wallet and will deliver the same if not better results. Try to get all the nutrients you need from food. It is completely understandable why people resort to using mass gainers, but if you can fit it all in through your diet then that will be the better option for you.

I personally only use whey protein isolate post work out, due to the fact it has the highest and fastest absorbtion rate. Which is really good for when your body needs the nutrients most when its repairing muscle. With the Whey protein found in mass gainers is most commonly a proprietary blend, your not getting that fast delivery like you would with an isolate, and in my opinion you would be better off eating chicken.
