One of the big issues out there in the bodybuilding community is poor teeth health which is inexcusable, considering people spend so much time, money and effort building muscle but don't do a good enough job taking care of their teeth. I see all these meatheads in the gym with huge muscles and their teeth are awful!

Here is the thing with taking care of your oral health, what you do NOW will be an investment into your future.
When i went off to college i stopped going to the dentist out of ignorance, i just figured i will worry about later. this was a mistake. 5 years later i ended up in pain and after going back to a dentist he said i needed a root canal and crown. At that time it cost me around $1200 which was a lot of money for any 20 something. And that could have been prevented by going to the dentist every 6 months like you should be doing. Another thing this dentist did was give me a mirror and sprayed my gums with air to show me all the plaque that had built up YUCK! It is important to see the dentist every 4-6 months so they can clean your teeth and check for small problems before they get big. Tartar breath is NASTY! in fact, we have all dated people who we kissed and their breath smelled like shit. all that bacteria gets stuck in your teeth and gums and build up, that causes really nasty smelling breath.

When it comes to proper oral health it also connects to heart health. this sounds weird and not possible but let me explain why its connected.
the spread of bacteria from your mouth to other parts of your body and bloodstream reach the heart and cause inflammation. Stroke and atherosclerosis has been linked to oral bacteria causing inflammation. so you are weakening your heart and will interfere with your gains anyway when you don't take care of your teeth!

A buddy of mine did not take care of his teeth and in his 30's had to get them removed and had permanent dentures put in. not all his fault, growing up his parents never took him to the dentist but as an adult he could have gotten caught up but he chose not to. it looks AWFUL. This guy drives a fancy Lambo, lives in a sky rise overlooking water, has lots of money. yet he can't get a girl cause his fake teeth! what girl or guy wants to date someone with dentures in their 30's? only a gold digger obviously. to make matters worse these fake teeth are just as hard or harder to take care of then those original teeth in the first place so don't be this guy! take care of your teeth cause you ONLY get 1 set of adult teeth so treat them like they are special !

Aside from regular checkups with your dentist I recommend things to do at home DAILY

obviously brushing your teeth is a good thing, but you are wasting your time using a regular $1 toothbrush. I highly recommend using an electric toothbrush and moving it over both your front and back gums/teeth. it will brush much more effectively and get into places a regular brush can't. also I highly recommend getting a waterpik. Every night before bed I take a shower and I use my water pik, it will work by spraying water in between your teeth and gums to clean hard to reach places a brush can't get to.

more tips you should be doing. giving your jaw, gums and teeth a break from chewing food will greatly improve your oral hygiene over time. so fasting is important.

avoiding sugars obviously is crucial and making sure you are flossing after every meal to get rid of food stuck in between your teeth.

I haven't had a single cavity in 10 years following this advice and its greatly enhanced my overall health. don't do what i did in my early 20's and think you can worry about down the line. do it now and invest in your teeth while you are still young!

@stevesmi I think oral health is #1 for sure. I see a lot of bad oral health which leads to other long term damage guys will have, its an issue for sure.

a lot of women won't even date a person with bad teeth
I don't blame them one bit who wants to kiss tartar breath

people Have to do a better job of body maintenance
it's not just about muscle

you bring up a good point a lot of people don't realize that you only have one set of teeth
you might as well take care of them

people who don't take care of your teeth are making a huge mistake
they take better care of their cars

oral hygiene is very important ageed upon!
its important for one to visit the dentist once a year at a minimum, brush & floss on the daily, use mouth wash.. refrain from eating garlic/onions and going to social events no one wants to smell you bro... lol simple yet people cant do it....

look into a thing call a miswak its a tree root which has been used for centuries..

Miswak is a traditional chewing stick prepared from the roots, twigs, and stem of Salvadora persica and has been used as a natural method for tooth cleaning in many parts of the world for thousands of years. A number of scientific studies have demonstrated that the miswak (Salvadora persica) possesses antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-cariogenic, and anti-plaque properties. Several studies have also claimed that miswak has anti-oxidant, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. The use of a miswak has an immediate effect on the composition of saliva. Several clinical studies have confirmed that the mechanical and chemical cleansing efficacy of miswak chewing sticks are equal and at times greater than that of the toothbrush. The present article provides a review of the various therapeutic effects of Salvadora persica on oral health, which will help to elucidate the significance and importance of this indigenous oral hygiene tool..

These are all extremely good points and should be taken very seriously.. all of this is fact... also, something very important to keep in mind is that poor teeth health can lead to other health problems as well, which can have serious consequence.. inflammation can occur in a bad way which certainly will negatively effect cardiovascular health... there are known risks for diabetes, cancer, kidney disease and so much more by having bad dental health..
