Intro
George Peterson was a Classic Physique pro bodybuilder, who became the first Nationals Classic Physique champion in history. George wanted to be the best bodybuilder he could be, even it meant sacrificing friendships and his health. By switching to Classic Physique competitions, it meant making a radical change to his body and also pounding his health in the process. In this article, we will take a look at his history, highs, steroid cycle, and death.
Stats and history
Born in 1984 and hailing from Queens, New York, he was gifted not only at bodybuilding but also karate, football, and basketball as well. His inspiration was Bruce Lee and his love was martial arts, so he took to weight training to get stronger. This led to him realizing how gifted he was, as his arms and chest started growing rapidly, and he was pushed by local competitors at his gym to enter bodybuilding shows. He realized that bodybuilding was even more challenging than any other of his favorite sports and required incredible discipline.
George at his peak was an absolute ripped 5'7'' tall and 195 pounds. His body fat is estimated to be dangerously low at 3% while in competitive shape. He had perhaps the most incredible pure physique we have seen in bodybuilding history.
His nickname was "Da Bull".
Early competitions
In 2008, George started competing in shows and fell in love with it. However, he wanted to compete in the over 220 divisions. Years later he changed his mind and decided to make the switch to Classic Physique which was a lower weight class. This required him to lose 30 pounds and was an incredible challenge that he accomplished.

He promoted several supplement, attire, and diet companies.
Training
George would lift a lot of weights heavy when he was competing at the upper bodybuilding competitions open classes. Once he switched to Physique he focused more on shaping his physique instead of worrying about large muscle mass and strength. He did a lot of isolation lifts and is more specific on what muscles he trains. His background in low rep and strength training benefited him after making the switch, and the hours he put in previously training, paid off as muscle memory is real.

Diet
To be as ripped as he was George had to follow an extremely disciplined diet. This meant zero refined sugars, refined carbs, or anything else that would stand in his way to being as ripped as possible. Here is a quick video he posted on post-workout nutrition where he says you should eat 30-60 minutes post-workout a meal containing both protein and carbs.
Death
George was found dead at only 37 years old in his hotel room in Orlando, FL as he was prepping for the Olympia 2021.
“Our condolences go out to his family and all who respected and admired one of the kindest men we have ever known,” the organizers of Mr. Olympia said.
Nobody was able to get a hold of him that day so his coach Justin Miller went to his room and found him face down on the floor. They called 911 and tried CPR but it was too late as he had passed away hours earlier.
Early rumors say he had blood coming out of his nose which could mean he died of an aneurysm where he had a weakened area in an artery that could have ruptured leading to internal bleeding/stroke. Once this occurs the person can lose consciousness and must be rushed to a hospital.
Another thing to mention is that it was reported he had been up the night prior very late and not sleeping. This makes it likely he was on heavy stimulants where he couldn’t sleep which could have made the situation worse.
Opinion
Many opinions have sprung up since his death on how to fix bodybuilding since there have been 14 major deaths in the past decade. My opinion is that a bodybuilder must have a roommate stay with them at all times and also be required to check in every 1 hour with their coach/trainer. Also, competitors should be required to have their health checked leading up to the competition by an INDEPENDENT doctor who can pull them out of competition, similar to what occurs in a sports training camp.
In all sports you have physicians who cater to athletes 24/7, there is no excuse why this same thing shouldn't be happening in bodybuilding. Supplement companies make billions and if you sponsor you should be required to chip in your share to ensure your athletes are healthy. In this case, had George been under the care of a doctor they could have flagged his health and removed him from the competition which would have potentially saved his life, just like they remove any other athlete from a game when their health is compromised.
George was a great man, loved by all, and was always there to help others. It is a shame we lost another great human being so early. It seems like the good guys are dying right now in bodybuilding!
Arnold's thoughts
Arnold made the point that bodybuilding hammers the organs vs. other sports that affect the brain. He thinks that bodybuilding should be about health and fitness and should be fixed. He thinks the smaller divisions should be promoted more and that testing isn't necessarily the answer.
This was his full quote:
“In the past 10 years, bodybuilding lost more competitors (14!) to early deaths than any other sport, including MMA and football. Most football players that die from CTE problems die much older than bodybuilders, and with the exception of a tragedy this week, MMA fighters die at a much lower rate than bodybuilders, You would think that the head trauma from MMA and football would outweigh the organ failure in bodybuilding, but bodybuilding is much, much worse. We need to fix that because bodybuilding should be about promoting health and fitness. I don’t know if the answer is more testing or promoting the smaller divisions more. What do you guys think?"

Steroid Cycle
Was George Peterson killed by steroids and other drugs he took? Hard to make the argument he was directly killed, but he was indirectly affected. Abusing these PED's will take years off your life. Let's look at what he likely took leading up to the competition.
