Introduction
Griffonia Simplicifolia is an African plant in which the seeds are used by supplement makers to produce L-5 hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), which is a naturally occurring chemical found in the body which has a lot of health benefits. This compound is a precursor to the serotonin neurotransmitter which produces a boost in mental well being.
What it is and how it works
Although Griffonia Simplicifolia is naturally occurring in plants, the actual chemical 5-HTP has only been legal without a prescription since the mid-1990s. Supplement companies lobbied to make it legal since it is derived from a natural plant, even though it is so strong. Since then it has been legal to purchase it over the counter.
5HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a metabolite of the amino acid L-tryptophan. You might have heard of tryptophan from the Thanksgiving myth that ‘eating turkey makes you tired.’ Although it’s true that turkey and salmon contain tryptophan, it’s in a very tiny amount and not enough to cause side effects. Serotonin is produced first from the amino acid called L-tryptophan. 5-HTP, which is derived from Griffonia Simplicifolia, is an important chemical that works to transform this amino acid into serotonin. Those who have depression or other medical conditions can use it in conjunction with their normal medication to help increase serotonin and thus feel normal again.
Benefits
There are several really cool benefits we will talk about that will rise when using Griffonia Simplicifolia.
Sleep: One of the reasons you probably will see Griffonia Simplicifolia or 5-HTP in natural sleep aids is that studies have shown it is beneficial for sleep. One particular study wanted to see if using it along with GABA gamma-aminobutyric acid would help sleep even when subjects were given caffeine. The end results showed that those studied had their sleep-induced along with better quality and length of sleep. Another study wanted to see if using this compound helped with sleepwalking and other severe sleep issues. The results of that test showed it was beneficial.
Fat loss
Griffonia Simplicifolia and 5-HTP can also be found in fat loss supplements and fat burners because it will decrease appetite causing the person to eat less. A study in the journal called Brain and Behavior found that people given the supplement had their brains respond less to images of unhealthy food and it reduced cravings.

experience mood swings, depression, changes in dopamine levels, and other physical and mental problems.
A second study done on overweight females wanted to see what would happen over a 4 week period when they took the supplement daily with regards to their approach to food. The study showed that the women who took it felt more full with less food than those who took the placebo. Hence at the end of the 4 weeks, those women had a reduction in body mass.
Depression and anxiety
As we mentioned earlier, Griffonia Simplicifolia/5-HTP can help with depression by increasing serotonin. There is much more research needed here, but researchers believe if you consistently use it then it can help with depression.
Anxiety research is also very thin at this point and only dates back a decade or two at most. Just like depression, doctors know that poor serotonin plays a big role in anxiety so boosting it bodes well.
Injuries
Nagging injuries are common in weight training and with those who play sports. Much of the research has been done regarding chronic nerve pain, and this supplement showed in a study to help reduce pain in those who suffered from fibromyalgia. Some of the more recent studies theorize that it can help offset pain perception which comes in handy when you work out.

Use on cycle and post cycle
Those who use anabolic steroids may experience mood swings, depression, changes in dopamine levels, and other physical and mental problems. Using Griffonia Simplicifolia while on cycle is a smart idea to combat all this.
When you come off of steroids you can expect your hormones to crash and this is where it is even more important to get a boost with your mental health. This is especially true with those who experience that feeling of being unstoppable on cycle, then feeling the complete opposite when they come off.
A post cycle therapy (PCT) is a tool utilized by steroid users to aid in recovery when coming off an anabolic steroid cycle. It is comprised of numerous techniques and supplements to help with the recovery process, both physically and mentally. Hence, the majority of steroid users who do not stay on cycle year round or go through Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) are highly encouraged to run a proper post cycle therapy. Read More..
Dosages
Griffonia Simplicifolia should be run between 50-100mgs per day. Athletes should run closer to the higher end of that dosage. It is important to be consistent with taking it as it does not elevate serotonin for very long, so using it daily with a split dose is your best option. See the next paragraph and how to use it properly.
Side effects and why you need to stack it with other supplements
Taking Griffonia simplicifolia/5-HTP increases serotonin, but researchers theorize that it may also reduce other neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. This could result in unwanted side effects. You should also check with your doctor if you are already taking medications for depression or anxiety so he or she is aware.
A simple solution to this is always stacking it with other supplements. The most common compounds you should be stacking it with are hordenine HCl, L-tyrosine, agmatine sulfate and L-carnitine. We know it is quite a lot to stack together, but you need this synergy for the absolute best results. Please read on to find out in the next paragraph how you can get all of these ingredients without buying all these supplements separately.
The supplement industry is full of products that hide their ingredients to conceal how pathetic they are. Others are truthful about what's in them but they only contain 1 or 2 decent ingredients, with the rest just fluff to fill out the label. They then slap some juiced up meathead on the cover who is paid to tell you how good it is, then they jack up the price 10X what it is really worth. Read More..
Where to find
You can most certainly find it sold at any online bodybuilding store listed as 5-HTP. We do recommend you use it as part of a comprehensive supplement stack as we talked about previously. Cardazol has Griffonia Simplicifolia [Seed] (Standardized to 98% 5-HTP) at 100mgs per serving, along with two dozen additional ingredients including what we mentioned in the last paragraph.
