Intro

Hadi-Choopan

Hadi Choopan is a Persian professional bodybuilder who has made waves the last 3 years at Mr. Olympia. His nickname is "The Persian Wolf" and his current stats at his peak are 5'7" and 240 pounds. His goal is to win Mr. Olympia and he is a guy to keep an eye on the next few years as he has a shot to contend for it.


Early life

Hadi was born in 1987 in the southern part of Iran into a very poor family in a very poverty-stricken part of the Persian region. As the case in poor nations usually younger boys must start working in their very early teens. Hadi was no different and spent his time hustling on the streets and working hard labor jobs just to make enough money to eat. He took an early interest in bodybuilding but was made fun of by those close to him because he weighed under 90 pounds, with some people telling him he would never amount to anything.

Thanks to his work in construction he began to grow some lean muscle mass. His first time lifting weights he would only do 5 or 10kg at a time and was helped by a coach named Jamshid Owji when he was 15 years old.

First competitions

Within 3 years of picking up his first serious weight, Hadi started to compete in Iran and was doing well. He won a competition in his part of the country and by 2005 people were realizing he had a gifted physique. In 2012, he won a silver medal at WBPF World Bodybuilding Championships, then the next year he took down the gold at the WBPF Asia Championships. He went on to win gold at the WBPF World Championships for 3 straight years in the mid-2010s and won gold the next year at the Mr. Olympia Amateur in 2017.

Big competitions

Hadi started to travel to other places around the world once he established himself in his own country. He knew if he wanted to build a brand and get sponsors he needed to win some bigger competitions. He competed at the San Marino Pro, Dubai Expo, IFBB Portugal Pro, Asia Grand Prix, and IFBB Vancouver Pro, winning either silver or gold in all those competitions.

Now it was time for Mr. Olympia and Hadi earned a strong 3rd place in 2019, just behind Brandon Curry and William Bonac. The next year against stiffer competition he got 4th place just being edged by the 2nd place Curry and the 3rd place Phil Heath. In 2021, he once again got 3rd place behind Big Ramy and Brandon Curry. It will be exciting to see if he can manage to improve next year!

Social Media

He also markets nutrition companies and has other business ventures he is building on. His social media has an impressive amount of photos of his physique and his training. He is quite impressive and extremely strong.

Shoulder controversy

A day after Hadi won the Vancouver Pro in 2019, which he won easily and qualified him for Mr. Olympia, another bodybuilder named Gustavo Badell came out and criticized him for his shoulders.

Badell's gripe was he felt Hadi used Synthol in his shoulders and said that it was a poison that inflames the muscle and isn't real muscle. He was quoted as saying "Congrats to the new phenomenal physique... not for me".

Many people have opinions about this but the consensus out there is many other competitors do the same thing and use a ton of steroids, drugs, and other things to enhance their physique, so it is odd to pick on Hadi for doing what he has to do.

Nutrition

Nutrition

Hadi takes his diet very seriously and thinks it is the most important part of your physique. His favorite foods are brown rice, chicken breast, and good fats like avocado. He also uses a bunch of supplements that he markets on his social media from multivitamins to protein powder to fish oil.

Hadi also is a strict Muslim who follows fasting protocols, this includes fasting one month out of the year for Ramadhan.

Training

Hadi does a lot of strength training, perhaps quite a bit more than other bodybuilders like him. He has been known to focus an entire session once a week on just strength, then follows it up with high volume another day which some refer to as ‘pumping’. He also does a lot of high-intensity training both connected to cardio and weights as well. For example, he has been known to only take 30 seconds between sets on days he is training HIT, while on days he does more strength he still only takes up to 3 minutes. Here he is lifting

Opinion

Hadi Choopan went from a skinny poor kid growing up in a very poor place, to one of the most respected bodybuilders of today. I expect very good things out of him next few years and he still has time to push for a Mr. Olympia crown. We can speculate that Hadi has been using steroids for many years as steroid laws are very different in Iran. He may have even started using them at a very early age vs. others.

    • His cycle leading up to Mr. Olympia could have looked like this:
    • HGH 30IU’s per day
    • Insulin 15Iu’s per day
    • 1200mgs a week Trenbolone Acetate
    • 1000mgs a week Testosterone Propionate
    • 200mg a day Winstrol
