Introduction
Welcome Evolutionary.org UG Supplements #22- How to identify supplement scams vs. quality products. In this episode, Steve and Mobster discuss what you need to know, examples of scams, do your research, ingredients to watch for and spiking, good company products, and why N2bm is loved.
What you need to know
Mobster says he has been in the game a long time, and there have always been snake oil supplements being pushed. It started with mostly vitamins, then during the 1960s and 1970s they started pushing more specific supplements. In the 1980s, it really took off with the rise of bodybuilding magazines hawking products.
One of the things that has really started to take off is claiming drug—or steroid-like results from supplements, which are a lie. You also have products that promise more than what they can deliver, and you have products that don't do what they claim. Mobster thinks that every industry has scams, but because the supplement industry isn't very regulated, then it's a problem.
Steve says that the FDA only has a chance, due to poor funding and being overwhelmed, to check a very small % of supplements that are being sold. He says that only 1-2% of all supplements you see online and at stores are even being checked by the FDA. If they do catch someone lying about what is in the product, or the dosing, etc. then that company must issue a recall. They can also take a supplement owner to court for criminal charges if it gets too far, however, this rarely happens and these companies know this so they try and get away with everything they can. You must be careful who you order from.
Steve says if a supplement company is paying pro bodybuilders or social media influencers to push their products, then that means they are spending almost nothing on quality or research. So you are paying a value for a supplement that is worthless, but because your favorite Instagram guy is pushing the product that makes you buy it.
Mobster also says remember lobbyists that are paid by the supplement industry are constantly pushing lawmakers to loosen regulations even more. Their end goal is to have 0% of supplements checked so that they can do whatever they want.

Examples of scams
Mobster says there are loopholes when it comes to how supplement companies can label their products and get away with it. One example is how they can use brackets to mislead you, another example is sugar content where they can claim 0 sugar or 0 calories when it really does have both.
Sometimes supplement companies will throw in something like niacin or beta alaline which can make your body start tingling due to some slight dilating of the blood vessels. This makes you think it is working when it is not doing anything except making you feel something.
Another example is dosing and an example would be what is an effective dose vs. what a supplement company puts in a product. However, they will claim that you will get good results on these products when the supply would only last you a week if you took what you needed to use.
Do your research
Fad supplements are always coming out as well. There will be the FOMO effect of not missing out on the next big seller, and people will load up on the product and realize it doesn't work and those fads will die out. This is why you see so many supplement companies pop up and then go out of business. Steve says the same businessmen will do this same tactic over and over again, and once the business dies out they will milk every dollar they can and then file bankruptcy, leaving their investors to take the loss and walk away with millions.
