Hugh Jackman is an Australian born actor known for his role in the X-men film series where he played Wolverine/Logan. He held the record as the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero until it was broken by Tobey Maguire. In total, the film series went 17 years and made billions in the process. He also starred in various movies and shows including 'Les Miserables' and several animated films.

His peak stats for Wolverine were 6'2'' 190 pounds and 7% body fat.

Early life

Jackman was born in Sydney, Australia on October 12, 1968, however, his parents aren't Australian. His father was an English accountant and his mother was also from England, however, they moved to Australia in 1967. This gave Jackman dual citizenship in both the UK and Australia.

Jackman was big on the outdoors and had dreams to travel the world. His career dream was to be a chef cause he felt like they got to travel a lot to cook for celebrities.

During his final year in college, he had to make up credit so he took a drama class and he bonded with the other actors in the class and felt at home. This is where he fell in love with acting.

Career

Hugh-Jackman

Jackman was offered a role on a drama show in Australia called 'Correlli' and in the process met his future wife Deborra-Lee Furness (who is 12 years older). He then starred as Gaston in 'Beauty and the Beast' and was a hit on the musical stage scene. In the late '90s, his main focus was television and musical theater. Jackman became well known outside Australia when he landed the leading role in "Oklahoma!' which earned him an Olivier Award.

Jackman broke through in 2000, when he starred in X-Men which was a huge hit making almost $300M on a $75M budget. The role was supposed to go to Russell Crowe, but he turned it down and recommended Jackman instead. Oddly enough, Jackman's wife didn't want him to play the role cause she found it ridiculous. Lucky for him he took the role and it launched his career.

Jackman also played other well-known roles in movies. In 2006, He starred in 'The Prestige' which is a Christopher Nolan thriller that was well-received by all. On the flip side, he played some roles which were forgettable including in Woody Allen's 2006 movie called 'Scoop', and playing Blackbeard in 'Pan' which was hammered by critics.

Jackman dipped his toes back into musical theater and films. In 'Les Miserables' he had to alternate his physique by gaining and losing up to 30 pounds for the role. It paid off as he earned a Golden Globe. In 2019, he went on her first world tour to perform songs dubbed 'The Greatest Showman' and earned a Grammy Award, and then in 2021 returned to Broadway to do more musicals.

Jackman has many films, shows, and theater credits under his belt. You can see a full list here

Charity

Jackman is a very good humanitarian. He has worked on causes from global warming to helping entrepreneurs get on their feet in poor nations to even the playing field. He has a coffee company that donates its earnings to education and development worldwide. Here is a post on his Twitter where he offers $100K to a non-profit charity.

Workouts

Jackman didn't become the Wolverine character by accident. He has a long history of being active and playing basketball, kayaking, cricket, and rugby. He also guest-starred on WWE landing a punch on the wrestler. You can watch that video here and it is quite funny

As far as getting prepared for his movie roles, Jackman worked with the well-known trainer David Kingsbury to help him get into top shape. Kingsbury has also worked with other big-name celebrities including Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Fassbender.

Jackman workout styles included cardio and a lot of weight training. He would start off going heavy and implement progressive overload during low reps. Then he would switch to more high rep workouts to get a strong burn to wear down the muscles. Over time, he gradually increased the weights he was doing. His go-to compound lifts include deadlifts and squats for his legs, bench press and incline for his shoulders/chest, and rows to build massive arms.

Aside from weight training he also did bodyweight exercises including pullups and pushups.

Diet

Diet

Here is a video where Jackman discusses his diet for Wolverine.

He describes the diet as 'strict'.

His calories stay in the 4000-4500 area before dropping it down to 3000 to lean up, but they are CLEAN CALORIES. No junk food allowed.

He mentions his main foods being chicken, fish, some steak, steamed vegetables, and brown rice on occasion. ZERO alcohol, ZERO sugar. He also eats good fats from eggs and avocado.

There is also mention of fasted cardio and time-restricted eating (intermittent fasting). These were tools used to shred down quickly after bulking.

Opinion

Jackman has done a lot to give back which is great. He also is very talented and has found his niche in life. Although I am not a fan of super hero movies or musicals, I know a lot of other people are into that. We will have to see over the next few years what his career path leads him but he has already accomplished a lot.

Steroid cycle

steroids

Jackman is athletically gifted and to put in that sort of work ahead of a film you need steroids to help you recover and grow. We can speculate his steroid stack could have looked like this:

HGH 3IU's per day upped to 6IU's during hard training

    • 1000mgs a week Testosterone to bulk, dropped to 200mgs a week to cut

The building block of all steroids, testosterone is a naturally-produced hormone in the body. It is secreted by the testes and is responsible for the balanced growth and maintenance of primary and secondary sexual characteristics in males - deepening of the voice, broadness of shoulders and narrowing of the pelvis, rapid hair growth (especially on the face, legs and pubis), and the production of semen for sexual reproduction.
