Introduction
Welcome to another episode of IronOverload.io Hardcore podcast. In this podcast #78, Steve and Mobster discuss James Hollingshead and his life and career. They also go over his social media influence, diet, and training, and the guys speculate on his steroid cycle based on what we know he likes and has talked about.
Early life and career
Steve opens up this segment by discussing James Hollingshead and his roots. He was born in 1989, and he is from London. Originally a boxer, he idolized Mike Tyson and other greats from before his time including Muhammad Ali. His interest in bodybuilding came at a young age and he started to train at a gym at just 14 years old. This is when he realized he had a greater gift for weight training than boxing and that is what he focused on.
In 2009, he won the UKBFF Junior British Championships and followed that up with another win at the UKBFF Heavyweight Championships.
His biggest wins early in his career as a pro were at the 2014 and 2017 UKBFF Men's British Championships and also the 2020 Europa Pro Bodybuilding contest.
He has done great to place at Mr. Olympia as well including 12th place in 2021 and 16th place in 2022.
His peak competition stats are 5'11'' and 255 pounds, although he has gotten much bigger in the offseason.
Social media influence
Next, the guys go over his social media web. James has an amazing social media following with over 250K followers on Instagram alone. He also is on many of the other major sites including Youtube where he has plenty of inspirational videos. One of the impressive things about his videos is the sheer amount of strength he has which is mind-blowing.
He has a plethora of businesses including discount codes for clothing, gym accessories, supplements, and more.
Diet
Steve says that Hollingshead says he spends around $210 a week on food alone. His favorite store to shop is a place called Sainsbury in the UK which is a big supermarket.
One interesting diet idea he offers is eating a lot of fruit including zucchini, banana, berries, and pineapple which he says is good for micronutrients. He also loves pickled beets for the pump benefits. Mobster also says how much he loves beets for erectile health and pumps.
When it comes to protein options his favorites are 5% beef mince and chicken breast. He also loves smoked salmon when it comes to seafood choices although he admits it contains a lot of sodium.
Other food choices he likes are fat-free yogurt, orange juice, Frosted Flakes, olive oil, avocado, rice, and 5% chips.
He completely avoids things like soda and sauces, instead he believes in salt and pepper to flavor his food.
Training
Mobster says he likes to workout at Destination Gym in Texas, which is a very hardcore gym.
A typical workout for him would go like this as Mobster explains:
*Hamstrings Curls 1 to 2 sets. Med weight and reps (warming joint up plus making sure to use energy at the start cos after glutes and quads energy might be low and the hams suffer cos of it)
*Leg Extensions (warm-up of joint) 1 to 2 sets. Med weight and reps
*Squats. Bar, 1-2-3-4 plates a side. Feels how it's gonna go at this point. Worked to 6 plates x 8 or so reps and then backed off to 5 plates x 12 reps
*More Hamstring curls x 2 sets
*Adductor work – same
*Calves x 3-4 sets
Steroid cycle
Here is what he wrote on Instagram about his steroid use regrets:
"It's not cool or fun or flashy. It's seeking longevity. Paying for scans. Doing bloods. Trying to live all the while improving at what we do. The fundamental component of improving is health allowing for it to be the case I'm not 100% but I try to be and I try my best to uphold that message and not to be reckless. When I was younger I was. I just wanted to win and win big whatever the cost. You get a little older and see the cracks in how we live and look after ourselves
So if I have any advice to share It's this. As soon as you decide to pursue bodybuilding make sure the first pill you take isn't D bol! It isn't Anadrol. It's isn't clen.
Check blood pressure often, check the above mentioned, and then you will make healthy progress and healthy progress is better than progress at any cost"
The guys go over a steroid cycle he liked to run based on his prior comments and they explain a bit about each.
Parabolan/Tren Hex 50mgs/day
Testosterone 50mgs/day. Tried 750mgs a week and had depression and mental effects. Steve mentions that everyone reacts to steroids a little differently.
He likes Nandrolone at 500-1000mgs a week.
Masteron 100mg per day
Primobolan 100MG/day
Mobster mentions he is not a fan of Insulin but has used it, but it's because he thinks it has hurt him over the years more than helped him.
