What is a carb and carb examples?
Steve starts by defining a carbohydrate as a molecule that contains carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen. Carbs are one of the main nutrients in food, along with protein and fat. Some examples of carbs include sugars such as fructose, galactose, and glucose; starches found in grain/bread-type foods; and cellulose and amylose.
The new updates from 2025, which are the current dietary guidelines for Americans, on how much carbs to get is 45-65%, which is way higher than the cookie-cutter bodybuilder recommendations of only 40%.
Foods that are carbs that bodybuilders like to eat include potatoes, oatmeal, rice, fruit, vegetables, raw honey, lentils, legumes, some dairy, and healthy grains.
More junky carbs include things like bread, refined sugar, soda, candy, ice cream, cake, most dairy, etc.
Mobster and Steve go over some of these foods and explain how you prep these foods matters, and also the quality of the foods can matter. For example, getting raw oatmeal flavored with raw honey is going to be a much healthier carb option, than getting oatmeal in packets full of sugar and additives.
Steve also rants about how fruit is considered the enemy in bodybuilding, which is a mistake. Fruit is great for digestion and has things like fiber, minerals, vitamins, and other compounds. They also do a great job of hydrating, especially with some harsher steroids. There is nothing better on a Trenbolone cycle when you feel hot and thirsty all the time than eating a nice melon to hydrate you and give you extra fluids since they are 95%+ water.

Carbs and the human body
Steve makes the point that the purpose of this podcast is to educate, it isn't to promote a certain diet. However, if we take a look at the people around the world who are living the longest and healthiest they are eating at least 2/3rd's of the diet macros in carbs. However, they are the clean carbs mentioned above. Their Fats are typically 20% or less, and their protein is 10-15% or less. So carbs are not your enemy, but bad carbs are so learn the difference!
When you eat a carb your body breaks down glucose, by enzymes in your body, then the glucose is absorbed into your bloodstream. Glucose is our primary source of energy and is used by cells to produce energy through cellular respiration. Excess glucose then gets stored for later use in our liver and muscles as glycogen which we burn through when we train. When you eat protein it gets converted into glucose as well via glucogenesis which takes place in the liver, so when there are no carbs available this process will happen.

Professional athletes and carb-cycling
Professional athletes of all sports cycle carbs. Steve gives some examples of what would be considered a high-carb vs. low-carb day. He says on a high carb day they will go with 200-300+ grams of carbs per day, but on a low carb day, they will do 50-100grams of carbs per day or less. It depends on how much training that person is doing. If they are traveling for a road game, for example, they will likely go low on carbs as they are sitting on a plane all day. But on a day when they are doing a lot of training, they will go higher.
The guys then give an example of bodybuilding/weight training. On a leg day where you hit your legs hard, then do cardio after you will require higher carbs. But if you sit on your ass all day watching football then obviously you will need less carbs.
Best cycles for high-carb diets
Steve says it's important to talk about different steroids for different carb requirements. The reason that certain steroids will require higher carbs is because they are fierce nutrient partitioners and they rapidly increase muscle insulin resistance. If you do not adjust your diet for this you can include.
Examples of steroids that will require spreading out and higher carb diets are:
Euro Pharma Trenbolone: Tren is a potent nutrient partitioner, and if you do not get enough carbs or spread out your carbs, then you will find yourself in trouble. Steve says he found a trick where he would make a healthy protein pancake and freeze them. If you ever needed to increase his carbs he would eat one with raw honey and feel better, or he would get more carbs from raw juice and melon.
EP Anadrol/Dbol/Superdrol/Halo: If these are run at higher dosages they can quickly require carb options.
EP Testosterone: Higher doses of Testosterone (over 500mgs a week) will increase insulin resistance pretty rapidly.
This also becomes more dire for those who are using Euro Pharma HGH, especially at higher doses. HGH will increase insulin resistance at a dose of 4-5iu's or more, especially considering how potent EP HGH is.
