Why hard work pays off

Mobster prefaces this topic by saying the people who listen to the podcast want to excel, and be better than they were yesterday, and better than the average Joe.  The mainstream gyms usually have people there to get into shape and kill time but they aren't improving as much as they should, because they aren't 100% all in.  One of the things that separates the top 5% of the gym, from the bottom 95%, is the ability to push yourself and be mentally focused.

One of the top ways to work hard is compound lifts. Things like full-body dips,, or adding weight to your dips, are great ways to stress your body and force it to get stronger. Mobster says his calves aren't the best, but they are big and strong because he has worked on improving them and forcing them to grow over the years. One of the things he has focused on is getting that contraction and burn that takes things to the next level.

Mobster makes the point that no top athletes train with low weights or don't challenge themselves. This is why they have coaches to push them. You have to keep the carrot in front of you and continue to pursue excellence if you want to improve.

Steve gives an example of when he used to be an endurance athlete and would do high-intensity cardio, hill running, and long-distance running where he would push his body to the point where he was getting nauseous and exhausted.  He has seen guys at road races running in full fireman or military gear who have almost beaten him while carrying 100 pounds of equipment!   Can you imagine how fast they would be if they ran without any equipment at all?  That pain you go through is necessary otherwise why would your body even bother to get stronger?   Now use that example when it comes to weight training, do you think you will improve by doing 20-pound curls and not challenging yourself with heavier weight?

Specific exercises to train your body

Mobster brings up chin-ups as a very challenging workout because size and strength may not be as advantageous. After all, you are fighting your body mass. It is a high % of load and it's a body weight exercise so it is always going to be a challenge.  He says this exercise will develop your back and arms like nothing else.

Another one is barbell wrist curls, this will build up the forearms and you can take advantage of the contraction.

Mobster says squats are crucial to stimulate the central nervous system and annihilate your legs and they will result in your entire body getting stronger and more in shape.

Pressing is important and you won't go wrong with the flat bench press.  This will not only your chest but also your shoulders and arms as well.

Steve brings up deadlifts which if done correctly can have an amazing amount of benefits.  He recommends on the top doing a shrug and also standing up to work your calves. This can be a total body lift if the form is correct.

Another one is lunges, heavyweight lunges where your knees touch the ground will have you sweating and breathing hard.  It is great for cardio and conditioning.

Steve gives one more called cleans.  If done right, they will work your traps, core, and legs like nothing else. A lot of gyms don't allow cleans due to damage to the floor or equipment which is understandable, so you may have to find room in your garage or patio to hit them hard.

EP Equipoise- This is a great steroid for quality moderate muscle mass and moderate strength. A dose of 200-600mgs a week is recommended with some light testosterone.
