Benefits of taurine (and other animo acids

I probably should have stated, "benefits of taurine besides controlling back pumps," lol. Taurine helps promote GABA, which is the 'chilled' neurotransmitter, reducing anxiety, relaxing you and calming you. Taurine helps to promote GABA which helps in relaxation and sleep. Some studies find it helps control seizures.

I started this thread as something of a log I can refer back to as you can. I'm starting with taurine. Doses, indications, etc., will follow.

I am clueless to Taurine other than I know it's in Red Bull. Would drinking a red bull pre work out suffice to relieve back pumps?

Glutamine is also good on GABA receptors as well...so helps with anxiety too..you should log both taurine during the day and glutamine before bed

I used to use Taurine religiously but haven't lately. I didn't know that about the anxiety/ GABA/ sleep, so I'm definitely pulling out my jar tonight!

I'll be interested to see how you dose it, devildog. I've been doing a lot of research lately on dosing vitamins and minerals and supplements and have realized the ones I do use, I'm underdosing significantly for what I need.

Great post!

Very good article on taurine benefits: http://www.poliquingroup.com/ArticlesMultimedia/Articles/Article/782/Ten_Benefits_of_Taurine.aspx

Lets get back pumps covered. 5-6 grams/day is a general consensus for controlling these, however, since everyone is different, more or less may be needed. It's considered relatively nontoxic, and some heavy aas users may need to go as high as 8 grams/day to control the back pumps.

Outstanding guy here who I consider one of the best there is in substance abuse, and healing through nutrition vs more drugs: https://www.patrickholford.com/advice/how-to-reduce-anxiety-and-stress

Use his advice for anxiety and stress. I do. Hell, I have the book. Yes, even a national-level NPC guy can fall down after having issues over service in Iraq, deciding a chemical would help... Not only did his advice get me on the right track, it healed my mind and body of an addiction, and I'm healthier than ever. Well, would be healthIEST if not using gear, but I'm keeping that smarter than ever. More to come...

Devildog...I know this is a taurine thread but do you use the GABA too? I really liked the article. I'm doing about 2/3rds of that. I'm almost two weeks caffeine free! That was my biggest downfall and been very challenging to quit. I started the journey for different reasons but the stress, anxiety and mood issues are definitely a factor too.

Yes, GABA at 1gram am, then 1gram evening. I'll be posting the life changing supps I take as well, and their doses. You may need to adjust some down as I'm 255 at the moment, but the only reason for that would be gastric issues at first, and bp issues at higher doses.

Forgot. Isn't just a taurine thread. I'll list others too. I should have called this an amino acid, antioxidant, etc., thread.

Thank you. I'm very interested in this type of thing and love learning about it.

Glad to do it. I like to log things so I can come back later. 41 means I don't remember like 21? Lol:o

LOL I'm the same age so can definitely relate and am currently in a state of brain fog coming off 20 plus years of caffeine use. It's not pretty! ;)

Oh wow! I'll post the prescription for caffeine withdrawal. I don't drink it, but did, and know. Btw, start on the GABA at 500mg bid then work up to a gram bid.

Caffeine withdrawal:

When coming off caffeine the first week, drink two cups of green tea/day.
For the headaches, 3grams bit C every hour for for 3-4 hours with lots of cold water.
For irritability, 200mcg chromium up to 3x/day.
For depression, 400mg SAM, or alternatively 1gram tyrosine on an empty stomach. Open the capsule(s), and pour the tyrosine under your tongue for max absorption.
Actually, it's smart to do the tyrosine anyway when coming off the caffeine.
If you were a mild user, run this rx for 30 days.

If heavy into it via pre-workout stuff, plus caffeine drinks during the day, run this for 90 days. This should normalize your brain chemistry, and blood sugar balance.
1 gram tyrosine bid on empty stomach (under tongue to absorb)
Carb snack mid morning/afternoon
NAC 500mg tid empty stomach (yes, under tongue- is also optional, but mandatory for cocaine withdrawal)
Ginseng 500mg bid (morning, and mid afternoon only)
B5 100mg bid with food
B6 20mg bid w food
Folic acid 200mg bid w food
B12 10mcg bid w food
Chromium 200mcg bid w food
NADH 5mg bid w or w out food

Coming off caffeine..are those supps recommended to heal the adrenal glands and regulate cortisol output?

Hi Cali, I just saw a Report this Morning on how Coffee (no cream or sugar), can help Prevent quite a few different Cancers.
Don't Ditch your Coffee just yet.
Studies show that it can help prevent Parkinson's Disease, Type II Diabetes, and Liver Cancer.........................................JP
P.S.
I can't find the most recent Studies info, so I just put this one Site up.

P.S.S.
I do remember that the Report stated 3 Cups are good, even more for Certain things.
Only if you're not Hyper-Sensitive to Caffeine.

Yea good bro jp. I've read that over and over as well actually. Straight plain coffee I know can be beneficial to liver as well as colon.

Yes, one cup off coffee (black) is good for you. If you are just against drinking it then sup with green tea like mentioned earlier. Taurine is great for stress and loads of other things that healthy people on this board thankfully don't have to deal with. It's great for the vascular system helps prevent congestive heart failure.

What brand of taurine are you using devil? I got to pick some more up today and want to make sure I'm getting a reputable brand.

I was also wondering how effective injectable b12 would be for energy and support from caffeine/stim withdrawals?

I'll drink the occasional cup of black coffee. Sometimes green tea. The coffee and green tea have some amazing antioxidants in them, and they do battle with free radicals like Marines do with terrorists! If we could only pin down the exact antioxidants each have, and use them for deeper research, I can imagine the results.

My issues are very hormonal based and everything I've read about trying to rebalance hormones (for women) says to cut out the caffeine....at least initially. I'm at a really crappy place because I'm too young to be considered "menopausal" but if I feel the way I have for the next 10-15 years, I may go off a bridge. TMI but that's why I have cut the caffeine for now. Just to see if it makes any difference.

If you are MSG sensative, Taurine will counter act the effects. I've used it for this in the past when I was crazy about avoiding free gluten.
