I'm on some pretty heavy pain meds (Morphine 30mg) and Percocet 10 (military injuries)... I know it's best when lifting to be able to feel your muscles to gauge their performance, so you know how hard to go and when to back off. I try not to take pain meds when ever possible, though I know some people thrive/love them while working out.
Has anyone ever used pain meds and gear?

I've taken percocet for chronic eat infections that get so bad they bleed out. Kills me, but I only take like 4/5 a day for about a month.. Which still allot bit not continuous. I had my blood taken for panel with everything but cholesterol.. And it w all good. But, everyone's different.

Hey first off, sorry to hear about your injuries. I am also a retired vet with military injuries! Two hip surgeries down! Anyway I get it.

That being said, the morphine would be SOMEWHAT ok to take during as its not as harsh on your liver. As for the Percocet, I would HIGHLY recommend NOT taking it while on gear. It has Acetaminophen (APAP/Tylenol) in it and very harsh on you liver are oral steroids. Now, depending on what kind of gear you're going to be taking or interested in, you could get away with low doses of you Percocet as long as you take something like N2 Guard, NAC, or TUDCA for liver support (Which I would recommend taking year round even off gear due to continued use of APAP) and stay away from the 17-alph alkylated (17aa) Class of oral steroids such as Winstrol, anavar/oxandrolone, dianabol (dbol), Halotestin, etc.

There are other factors but I would recommend studying up on the different types and classes of gear and if you're absolutely set on using AAS, taylor a cycle around the drugs you absolutely need to take. Also remember that strength gains will come helping you lift heavier. That being said, tendons and ligaments don't keep up with growth of muscle and strength and if you're masking soreness with painkillers you could potentially cause damage. So again, its not ideal to be taking both but if you absolutely have to take the pain meds just be smart.

Have a great day!

Yeah, I'm trying to get off the percocet altogether but the doc still prescribes it to me, regardless. And I basically stay away from oral aas as well. I appreciate the input bro!

Yeah the morphine should be better than the percs only because of the acetaminophen.. shit's harsh on the liver and if you're taking gear you want to be cautious of that but as long as it's not everyday use of the pain meds you're more than fine! It's when you depend on them when it becomes the problem especially cuz of tolerance! Tolerance is a bitch!

Agreed, just be aware of the fact that any amount of perks over time will come with tolerance, thus comes higher dosages and then as we all know, dependance whether mental or physical. Just be careful man and try and get off of it completely. You will be much happier. I was :p

everyone is so worried about organ damage that they forget that stacking these drugs with training is opening you up to permanent injuries for life.

seriously is there any way you can stop these drugs and maybe take a natural route for your pain? cause pain killers and lifting weights do not mix at all .. at this rate you will be crippled in another few years

I disagree... But sure, nearly anything you add to your system/body can cause harm. But any medication, taken wisely and monitor properly can be beneficial and aid to a better lifestyle. Hell, our military throws pain killers/motrin (Ranger Candy) at Soldiers to get them back to duty (minor injuries only). And I've never heard of pain medication crippling anyone! Sure, if you're a jackass and down a handful of pain killers and hit the gym like a maniac you deserve to damage something for being stupid. So with all that said, if you have no experience or first hand knowledge to my question, it would be appreciated if you just sit quietly and let others with more constructive and positive things to say, respond. That is all...

If I were you, I would give a deeper thought into what @stevesmi has said, because that is another side of the truth that has to be taken into consideration. There is no absolute truth, but something close to that gets born in discussion. So let us discuss the matter without heating up plz

Well, you're not me. And I stand by what I said, period. I give consideration to all comments before I respond... I've busted my ass for nearly 25 years staying in shape, meeting height/weight & physical fitness requirements and molding others to do the same, all the while answering the call to protect this country without missing a fucking beat! I've ran through, climb through, fought through, bleed through and thought through many adverse situations, so let's not think for one minute just because I ask for opinions, I'm clueless to the situations, conditions and issues. Answering with TACT is the best way to get your point across and solve a problem without causing offense. Telling me; "at this rate you will be crippled in another few years" without knowing anything about me or my situation other what I stated, is like pissing in the wind...

And who's heated... I'm just making my point clear & understandable.

Been on that amount of meds before. From what they told me, it wasn't the best time to be testing my max in the gym. Controlled movements were advised to avoid injury.

And if you're worried about the acetaminophen, see if they can switch you to Percodan. You're just swapping the tylenol for aspirin.

Good luck. I know it can be a grind, but hopefully things keep getting better and better.

Appreciate the comment. Since maxing my bench at 465 lbs years ago and consistently benching 405 lbs consistently for many years, I haven't seen a need to go any higher. I've actually just been using moderate to low weight 225-315 lbs at higher reps and I'm still making gains. My gorilla days in the gym are long over and I'm more concerned with solid, lean gains and symmetry. I'll look into the Percodan, thanks.

just go slow man. Try to take a day or 2 off the pain meds to really assess things. You will not have a clear picture if your on too much pain med, so every 2wks or whenever possible, give it a break. That will really tell you a lot.

Just watch that liver man. You only get 1.

Trust me bro, I'm already there with you on this one. My Docs get their panties all bunched up when they piss test me and find low levels of pain meds in my system... I tell them I don't need a 30 day supply of Percos to be taken 3 & 4 times a day. But they start on this protocol crap and prescribe them anyway for break-though pain. I don't take them... The Morphine does work and I don't need to take it more than twice a day. This is more of a money making thing for the Docs, if I don't get a script, they don't get to bill the VA. But I will at least get my Precocets changed to Percodan, if not stop them all together.
I've been active with sports and weightlifting, etc. my entire life. And I'm very careful with what I take and how I workout but if I had to give up working out, my life would be over... But I'm good... My liver and bloods are checked on a regular bases
