For those who compete

Great thread. Finally took the time to "DIGEST" the whole thing! hahah haaa ha...anyways joke.

Question: So..when you say you use a ratio as you outlined (45%pro...30%carbs 25%fat) that is a ratio of your total calories per day correct? The question is what are you basing your TOTAL DAILY CALORIC INTAKE off of? How many calories are we talking and do those calories stay fixed throughout or when you get below 10% do you drop your total calories again? Finally, I noticed that a great deal of your carbs come from vegtables. Would it be safe to sub things in like more brown rice or oats for example?

Yes, for cutting, this is a ratio of my total calories.

I'm basing my total calories on 255lbs 5'11" and starting at 15% going down to high 3's-4. What is that number? For me, I use 11 and 1/2 calories per lb/body weight per day for CUTTING. 5 calories /lb body weight protein, 3.5 calories/lb body weight carbs, and basically 3 calories/lb body weight fat.
Total daily macros = 2,950
Calories from protein at 45% = 1327 calories
Calories from carbs at 30% = 885 calories
Calories from fat at 25% = 737.5 calories

So, in doing the math for a 215 lb person like my Son,
2,472 calories/day
1,112 calories/day protein
742 calories/day carbs
618 calories/day fats

To break it down further
293 grams protein/day which with six meals/day = 49 GRAMS protein/meal
186 grams carbs/day which with six meals/day= 31 grams carbs/meal
69 grams fat/day (fat is 9 calories/gram), with six meals/day = 11.5 grams fat/meal

And NO, these calories don't stay the same throughout. I adjust calories weekly based on my weight, and body fat. IMO, this is the ONLY way to make the correct progress!

Yes, I like the mixed vegetables for the fiber, and water content, plus I need the carbs. You can substitute whatever you want in the slow carb class by using my above calculations, but make sure you adjust to your body weight. Last, I do eat oats twice a day when cutting. When I get down below 10%, I start carb cycling, and you'll see more about that in the thread above as I've posted about it. This isn't really hard. However, you have to learn it, practice it, then you'll figure out what works best for YOU. Don't let any of this wrap you around the flag pole.

So if I understand correctly fiber does not have calories right? do you subtract the amount of fiber in each item to get your macros correct.

x2 ???? :).....actually I think you count the calories BUT because the fiber goes right through you and does not get absorbed, you SUBTRACT THE FIBER GRAMS FROM YOUR CARB TOTAL???. ( I am not sure of the intricacies of that one.) All I do know is if calories were not a factor, we could all sit around eating high fiber foods like bannans and grapes and not worry about a single calorie.

So Devil....you metioned that when you get below 10% you no longer have a cheat day. Now when you are cutting but not at 10% yet but still of course trying to lean out, obviously you are still able to get results with a cheat day. I remember reading about your cheat day and it sounded nice! My question thou is do you think you would be THAT MUCH FURTHER AHEAD IN YOUR GOAL OF CUTTING and get it done faster, if you were to just stay on your clean diet all the way through? Or do you think that one day a week does not really make a difference? Interesting thou that you find it necessary to not have one when you get below 10%

There's no calorie counting in terms of fiber. I've never heard of that one before. The fiber is in the mixed vegetables so I can...well, make a head call, and not need stirrups. Lol!

Actually, this is my last cheat meal. This evening, I will be eating baked lasagna (form an AMAZING Family Italian restaurant), and enough garlic bread to stop vampires for miles! Ooh rah! The cheat meal, replenishes my glycogen, and right now I feel a little run down, so it's MUCH needed. The weight gained from a single cheat meal is negligible. And no, I never rush for results. I did that years ago, and it had me so miserable, I almost gave up bodybuilding. The key is two steps forward, one back. Not 8 forward, and 15 back, which is what will happen if I rush my results at this point. I start carb cycling this week, and if some of you are gonna try that, pay close attention to the FACT that I reduced my protein intake on that day to keep caloric intake from going wild. This is NOT a cheat day. Lol! It's there for a reason.

Happy Easter DD. Hey....I noticed you use a lot of flax seed. What do you find the benefits are for bodybuilding or health in general?

I'm going to follow this thread as well. I made a similar thread over on EF about a year ago, that lasted about a year. I almost had a nervous breakdown making that thread, lots of work... Good luck!

So to start a topic, when is everyone's next show? I'm still aiming for a local show here at the beach in aug but I may hold out for a NPC! Lol to many decisions in my life right now haha

But when is YOUR next show fellas?

Good idea but probably better if u open a thread with that in mind so, devildog's thread can stay on point with the info he wants to share instead.

This way it doesn't get hijacked by multiple themes within a theme, right.

Thought that was u. Last I remember u were going to post some pics and u were talking about how BIG "Muscle Addiction " was getting. I must have missed the pics.

Hope u can start a thread wth a very simplistic approach on blasting and cruising regarding Myostatin and ur suggested time frames for such.

That would make devildog's thread here and that 1, a must read for all. Hope u consider it.

Ledhead, very nice to see you over here my friend. We could really use your knowledge and input on this forum, so I hope you will do so!

I'll be happy to read other competitors posts right here in this thread. That's what this is for; a collaboration.

I'm very curious about your nutrition precontest. Also what you do with carb depletion/loading, sodium, and water the final week

That's where we're going next. I'll type it out tomorrow. I was working in my back yard today, and there literally was a water moccasin three feet from me with a large frog in it;s mouth. Since I have a Son and two dogs that go in that yard, my .22 revolver and some snake shot did the trick. What's funny is the frog jumped out of the venemous snake's mouth, and hopped away unharmed by the snake shot. That snake was as big as my wrist. The next one I shot (at) came at me. Been one of those days in sunny Florida. Lol!

Anyhow, I'll be posting what I do, but I will be pointing out, "don't necessarily do as i do." It's going to be an examplewhat I do, but will point out ahead of time, the exact things I do are impossible to point out, as I'll often vary what I'm doing according to the condition I'm at that point in time. I'll also throw in some stuff no one really knows, or doesn't want to give up for fear of a competitor getting the information. Of course, if there were competitors on here who compete against me, I'll post that I eat at McDonald's the week before the show. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll be posting about this tomorrow.

Forgive my ignorance cause I live in the arctic but what's a snake shot? As me about polar bears and wolves, I'm in but I don't know much about snakes or guns. lol

Just to put it out there, my next npc show is aug 12 and it's a local NPC Virginia/DC Cup.

It's not a mainstream show but it's huge here for the locals in Virginia Maryland North Carolina and DC!!

Lol! No problem. "Snake shot" is southern for a .22 (small), caliber that's acts like a "shotgun shell" if you will. The "round" is actually a small plastic cover over very small pieces of shot. This is something I rarely ever need, but comes in handy when encountering venomous snakes in or around my lawn. I don't bother black snakes, or any other non venomous snakes as they eat rats, and literally run off venomous snakes. These water moccasins were large enough to out someone in serious risk of death, the ICU, lol and I can't let those things stick around so close to my back door.

Outstanding! Come back to this thread after the show, and let us know how you did.

Thanks! And yuck...it's hard for me to imagine snakes in my yard!!

Non poisonous are no problem. I leave them alone. The poisonous one's here-especially water moccasins who will at times "come after someone" have to go if they're close to my house. Living near water in Florida can be interesting at times. Lol

I was canoeing once on choctawahatchee river and a moccasin tried to come into canoe with me. Glad i had oar in hand, slapped that mean bastard in the face. We have non poisonous in our yard all the time. So far no poisonous, knocking on wood.

We have Diamondback Rattlers here in Cali. The weather getting so hot and dry, they love to sun bath right out in the middle of say a walking trail. When you say the water moccasins are poisonous how bad are we talking? I know people here who have been bitten by rattle snakes and as long as they get to the hospital within an hour or so they are fine. They might get realy sick but its not a life or death situation.

If you go straight to hospital they give you anti-venom and you stay overnight or maybe 2 days. If you are on the river by yourself you might have to hike or float out, could be deadly. Especially if you go into shock.

Anyone have any questions before moving on?

Do you up your anti estrogen pills 3 or 4 days before stepping on stage? or do you switch from one to another.....Like if your taking 1 mg anastrole and switch over to Letro for last week to really lower estrogen levels....Thanks brother just curious......

I don't want to find out how bad they are!:D
Some snake-handling Pastor up north recently died of a water moccasin bite.

I switch from Aromasin to Arimidex at 1mg/day. I posted about this earlier in the thread. And yes, I'll increase the Arimidex dose if I feel even a little puffy due to the test suspension. If I wind up like I usually do, I'll only need 1mg Arimidex/day. I also mentioned earlier in the thread that Arimidex is extremely harsh on the HDL.

A little boy in Weest Virginia was playing on a river bank by himself, and he started playing with "the brown worms" (Copperheads.), His Mother came out, and he said "the worms keep biting me." He didn't make it to the hospital. Sad...

10 days out starting Arimidex 1mg/day.

I grew up in the south, swam in local rivers. Had them mother f#@kers swim across rivers to attack me. I learned to shoot a 22 pistol by maybe 8/9 yrs old. Hate those daum snakes....had one drop in a canoe on me...can't shoot, but I stomped his head flat.

Nothing worse than swimming, come up and be eye to open mouth to one of those dirty bastards...ughhhhh!!!!!

Awful story. JESUS!! Sounds like something out of a horror movie!

FUCK THAT! You would never catch my ass swimming in a river with deadly snakes! You guys live dangerously down south!

Where I live in the south, there is no snakes or alligators or anything like that!

I am soooooo thankful for not seeing those here. But when I lived in Daytona, gators em were everywhere.

Ok, so at the stage where I'm 14 days out, I'll need to be down to 4% or less, feeling full from the Anadrol (I drop ten days out), have a decent tan, and am going to start carb depleting soon. Keep in mind, carb depletion works well for some like me, but others don't even need to do it.

We'll start with carb depletion and reloading. Post 1 fourteen days out:

At day 14, I'll start lowering my carbs gradually down to day seven. Sunday. The carb cycling stops at day 14, the meats stay the same, but the carbs start dropping SLOWLY.

Sunday, carb deplete. Meals will be heavy with broccoli, lettuce, tomatos, peppers, every other meal is lean red meat. Could be lean sirloin-bison burger. (Training will be mentioned below)
Monday same
Tuesday same
Wednesday, carb loading starts, and starts with high glycemic carbs to the tune of 100 grams/carbs per meal. I'll eat white bagels, white potatos, white rice, plain shredded wheat, and even sweet potato baby food. Lol! I'll also be taking in a 99mg potassium tab with each meal, as well as papaya enzymes. If I'm going to use insulin to carb load, this is the day I'll do it. And the doses are low. 3iu's humalog injected IM in delts per meal, and the last meal is at 6:00pm. I'm NOT saying go out and do this! I'm saying if I think I'll need it, then I'll use it on this day. I don't always carb load with insulin.
Thursday, I'll switch to slow carbs, sweet potatos, mixed vegetables, brown rice, and consume 85 grams carbs/meal.
Friday, same carbs, but drop down to 65 grams carbs/meal
Stage day, I'll have breakfast with lean ground beef, and a 1/2 bagel with peanut butter (we'll go over water intake further down), a pretty small maxpedition bag with me (but black. The tanner gets everywhere.), which will have red wine (I buy the 8oz carafes), potato chips (more on that later), two bagels, peanut butter, a jar of sweet potato baby food, tanning stuff, brushes, etc., a few Dyazide tabs, in which I only take one, but will often help out competitors who aren't competing directly against me, Lol! some proviron and halotestin tabs, etc.,
Keep in mind, carb depletion is something I recommend trying before staking a show on it. Called a "dry run." I'll often gain about 4lbbs of weight during the carb up as I was extremely depleted, and the water and muscle sugar received from the carb load goes into the muscle cell vs around it which causes blurring. I stick to the conservative side when loading as I don't need any surprised like spilling over, and adding subcue fat that adipose tissue loves to store with an overabundance of carbs. You'll see above, I'll take in 1,500 grams carbs over the 3 day load.

Since I'm going to carb deplete, I'll want to make sure I'm depleted by training in the following manner:
Legs stopped training at day 10. No more leg training!
Sunday (Six days out) I will train upper body with 4 sets taking very short breaks between exercises, and no more than 1.5 minutes rest between sets. The less rest I take between exercises and sets causes muscle sugar to be decimated at a much higher rate than the typical too long rest periods.
Abs- 15 reps 1 set
Back- 10-12 reps 1 set
Chest-10-12 reps 1 set
Delts- 10-12 reps 1 set
Biceps- 10-12 reps 1 set
Triceps 10-12 reps 1 set

Rest no more than 1 and 1/2 minutes, then repeat the above. This should be done a total of four times, then pose, then get out of the gym. And yes, I also still train damned heavy with this above routine. This looks easy in type, but go try it while running on no carbs, and have skin that's saran wrap thin. Not easy at all! Lol!

Monday- same as Sunday
Tuesday- same as sunday
Wednesday-stage day, NO training of any kind. Eating, posing and resting is all that gets done here. Well, that's not including the hair cut, shaving CORRECTLY, spray tan, the applications of two other tanners, getting the routine down, and just pure and simple perfect posing. Yes, I even have a DVD called that. lol! More to come. I'm carb depleted, so I'll fix anything I left out.

We don't swim in swamps down here. Lol! Snakes, gators, snapping turtles big enough to take off four fingers (not to mention, I don't want my __ bit!), eels, etc., in those waters. Not for me! I won't even swim in the intercoastal.

post 2 six days out Salts and water

Sodium and water:

Sunday-Wednesday, I'll increase my sodium intake by adding sea salt on the meats, and vegetables, and continue to drink all the ice cold water I want.
Thursday- I'll cut my sodium intake. I'll start eating boiled chicken breasts, and grill lean red meat. No fish, eggs, or ANY seasonings besides black pepper, etc., I'll lower my water to 1 gallon this day. I mentioned the diuretic already in the early part of the thread for that protocol.
Friday- I'll decrease my water to 1/2-3/4 gallon this day, and stop drinking it by 6:00 PM.
Saturday- yes, it's sipping the occasional ice cubes.

Saturday- of course is sipping ice cubes, but there's more that can be done back stage. I'll start barely sipping from an 8oz carafe red wine. I'll also have another half bagel with peanut butter. As far as the potato chip comment from above, I use these when it's time to line up. Very simple, I'll put two potato chips in my mouth, and let them dissolve. You'd be surprised just how much this pulls that little bit of cub cue water out from under the skin!

Im good thus far, following with great interest.

If anything sounds confusing, now's the time to ask. What I outlined isn't small stuff by any means, so anyone who's confused should ask now. I was also hoping other competitors would show up here, and add their regimens as well. Just because I compete at the top doesn't mean I'm the best there is. Lol!

Quick question. I noticed you said on Saturday you start sipping on wine. Is this because alcohol is a diuretic and it helps to dry you out?

I thought that I would have a few questions, but being Sidelined, is messing up my Psyche a little.
I was hoping to Compete in the Grand-Masters Division in a Local Meet..........................................JP

Thanks bro...Just curious...I did remember you talking about only using it briefly because of HDL....

Yes, the only time I use Arimidex is pre contest, or 3 days out from an event. It happens to help "dry me out" well, and is more predictable IMO. And absolutely, it rips HDL to shreds which is why I ONLY use it for contest/event prep.

Yes, but also helps as I'm eating a 1/2 white bagel with PB. And also helps with vascularity.

If I'm doing at 61 what you're doing, I'll be VERY happy.

For those of you who have issues with puffiness with test, I recommend dropping the suspension from the arsenal 3 days from stage. I know how to control water myself, but for those of you who don't want to take any chances on game day, drop the suspension.

You don't have any problem flattening out by dropping sodium that much starting the Thursday before a show? I've always been afraid to cut it too much for that reason, as I've read that dropping sodium that much can flatten you, give you a loss of vascularity, and make it difficult to get a pump. I've always quit adding salt the last couple days along with water reduction to throw the electrolyte balance off enough to drop the water, but nothing more

No problems with flatness, or vascularity. I'll be salting meals early in the week, then cutting sodium Thursday. By doing this, sodium and water will continue to come out. By loading with sodium early in the week, I'm creating homeostasis. Timing this is paramount, as aldersterone comes into play 3 days into the low sodium, and that's NOT what we're wanting.

There's not a Doubt in my mind that you'll be there !
I did think of one question ?
What do you use (which product), for Hair Removal, in those places, that you either can't reach with a Razor, or really wouldn't want to put a Razor to.
I've used "Nair Shower Power Max", but I swear to God, for me it needs to come in a Gallon Container..........................JP
P.S.
I like to remove All the Hair, in the Summer, for the Beach.
I'm not down with the "Fur Coat" look, even though, thank god, I'm not that Bad.
P.S.S.
Had a Friend back in the day, who was Armenian, this Cat looked like "Homo habilis", he needed "Hedge Trimmers"

LOL!!!! And believe it or not, I'll use a razor. In fact, I'll have several Mach 3 razors I'll use as one gets clogged up, I'll grab another, etc., then clean out and repeat. The shaving sucks! And yes, I shave everything from the neck down. Females in my World have often said it's like living with another female. Lol!

Yeah I hear you, I get the same thing from my Girlfriends, because I'm always having a Shaving Day during the Summer.
My Father was a Barber, so I've got all these Electric Trimmers, I Rubber-banded the lightest one to a Pair of Tongs that have a Joint, now I can shave my Back.
Before I did this, I almost Dislocated a Shoulder, trying to shave my Back........................................JP
P.S.
I still don't like to shave the Jewels, I use the Nair for that.

LOL!!!!!!! When I was a newbie, I used to duct tape a razor to a stick, and get the back. After my then wife saw me doing that, she started shaving my back. As for the jewels, all that's required is lifting the stalk to shave the berries. Lol! It's actually not bad. Just NEVER use an electric razor/clippers there!:eek:What a learning experience that was!

Yes early on I clipped the Sack, and threw that Electric Razor across the Room.
My Biggest problem is that I need Reading Glasses since I turned 55.
So trying to see what you're doing, as your Focus goes in and a out, because your looking through the glasses, and then your Focus shifts beyond the Glasses.
So Unfortunately, you have that to look forward to, or should I say Dread...............................................JP
P.S.
That's why the Nair, you just have to Time it, too long and you can Irritate the Skin.
I got it down with the Nair Max, it's the only one that works well.

Great thread not sure how I missed this I'm in

Hair removal is a lot harder than I thought it would be. There are a lot of areas like around the knees, the back, the back of legs, and ankles that can be a bitch too. I cut myself I don't know how many times the first couple times

Body trimmers bye axe there shaped more for the job had a norelco that rocked but they switched up the design on the blades the ones bye axe do a sufficient job around your junk and jewels

Nair for men. Works likes a charm bro! Just be sure you wash it off thoroughly!!

I've used the hair for men. I can attest that it works. When I get close to a show, I'll always let the body hair grow a little, then shave with a Mach 3, and a bar of soap. Seems soap works better than shaving cream. I even use for the face daily. The reason I'll let body hair grow for about ten days before show is it's easier to shave a little hair than very short stubbly hair. If I shave very short hair, I'll often wind up with razor burn/a few red spots.
