Hey guys.
I have a friend who is 40 years old and a bit over 300lbs. He is not extremely overweight because he's just a big guy in general.
He's wanting to start getting into the gym again and he's asked me what was one of the best muscle recovery supplement is.
I don't usually take a muscle recovery other than Ancient Strength because I'm 21 and my muscles bounce back fairly quick already.
I've told him about glutamine, but is there any other supplement that's better than glutamine or some sort of mix of a few different supplements?

Thanks - In advance.

other than getting adequate protein and rest, nothing really enhances recovery. Cold baths can help but nobody wants to suffer the experience. ZMA is good for neural recovery, glutamine does jack shit, don't bother with it.

I take protein post workout with glutamine and creatine.your body uses all of its reserves while lifting so its good to replenish those to help recover the muscle tissue that is being broke down or stressed.

Glutamine is good for immune function and immune health but it won't do much for muscle recovery. I recommend:

1. A high quality protein powder such as isolation or wheytobuildmuscle from n2bm.com. Take 2 scoops (60g) after your workout

2. A high quality multi vitamin such as ruthless 3D from n2bm.com

3. 1 serving of BCAA pre and post training. I like the product gear from n2bm.com

4. 3-6g of fish oil or krill oil per day. N2bm.com makes a great krill oil product.

5. A high quality greens powder twice per day.

6. 10g psyllium husk before bed. I order mine bulk from truenutrition.com. Use can use code tkz564 to save 5% on the website.

7. If he is 40 years old, a natural testosterone booster such as HCGenerate from n2bm.com will also really help.

sleep is a big one.. proper nutrition is another. we really fail to get enough of both in today's high paced society where everyone is trying to beat out the Jones's down the street.

once you get that down supplementation as what is mentioned above can help as well.

it seems crazy how hockey players sometimes play back to back nights such a tough sport, but it also helps that they have been conditioned so well to be able to handle that. muscle conditioning takes time, these pro athletes have been playing sports since they were 4 years old, that really helps

Apart from what has been recommended by @muskate there is not really much that can be done for muscle recovery enhancement given the conditions of your friend. With such a huge weight he can't use steroids and other PED's, so by now he should stick to the abovementioned recommendations.
