We have elbow sleeves made from 7mm neoprene. Ive never been that great at bench but after we started stocking them i gave it a try. Bench went from 275 x 5 to 315 x 7. Also helps on shoulders and any pushing motion. Comfortable enough to wear during a full workout. Slingshot will be much stronger but you cant really do much else but bench with it.

where is your sticking point at with your bench?.. does it flatten out after you clear your chest by say 4-6 inches?.. then I would hit triceps harder.. like close grip and floor presses.....if it's the bottom.... then hit more rear delts and lats.

Slingshot was good for shirted benching..teaches one to keep the elbows tucked...also allows you to overload your CNS

I have the regular and maddog. They're fun to throw on every once in a blue and see what you can handle or if you hit something for 1, you can throw it on and get 3-5. It can definitely be an effective tool but I wouldn't use it too much. Although I can't say I've seen a direct correlation from slingshot to regular bench in MY training.

If you have any resistance bands....you can bench from a rack and tie the bands around the top. Its the same concept as slingshot...reduce weight as you lower the bar. Elbow sleeves are the same just applies the concept more locally to your body.

Yeah, but did you get any Stronger without using the Sling Shot.
Can you do 315 x 7 without using the Sling Shot....................................... JP

Yeah my sticking point is closer to 6 inches I have long arms and benching has always been a fight for me so maybe I should try floor press and maybe some board presses?

The bottom was my sticking point which is is the position in which you have the least leverage. By reducing the weight slightly with elbow sleeves at the bottom, you maximize the weight at the top of the rep where you have the most leverage. This is the concept behind band training, using chains, etc.

If your sticking point is 6in up...definitely work on tricep.

I keep my bench lighter because of shoulder issues... but I can tell you the biggest tool to bust a barrier on bench is dips... reverse grip weighted dips... It will help you smash through walls of your current bench press plateau.

Never lifted with a slingshot actually. Be curious to try it out. I do band work in the box from time to time and that helps immensly.

I also forgot to add I brought my bench up with TRX after chest days and really fucked those supporting muscle fibers. Also have you benched with a log or weight ball?

I have never tried that out. It would be interesting to give the slingshot a shot.

I've got the mad dog, my bench is about 505-510 now without it and about 550 with it. I bought it because I've got chronic elbow issues and they simply don't hurt when I use the sling shot.

Great post. I would try not to rely on performance aids such as a slingshot, belt, knee wraps etc because you become dependant on them. The performance aid is what is causing the strength gains, not you yourself.

I would film yourself benching and analyze where your weak point is. For most people, it's the lock out. Focus on increasing your tricep and shoulder strength through narrow grip bench presses, dips and over head barbell shoulder press.

Thabks guys all solid tips I hit chest and tris today incorporated some band work for lock out over load and some floor presses ill keep you guys posted if it pans out

Some great information in this thread, but if you are like me and you don't really have a weakness (aside from shitty elbows) elbow sleeves from Inzer or the slingshot are your best bet. They allow me to keep training without pain, and while I understand I am lifting more with them than without them I make sure I take that into account. I do see about a 50 pound jump on the slingshot, and about a 30 pound jump on the Inzer sleeves vs. without.

If you have a sticking point listen to what has already been said, and I'll reiterate the best way to figure it out is to video your lift.

Heavy floor presses, also if your sticking point is 6" off chest, start with a dead weight at that position with about 75-80% of your one rep max. Hit explosive singles from that position. Rest pause stuff will always help as well for the bottom but tricep strength sounds like your sticking point. Ever done decline skull c****ers? That extra muscle stretch will really help your strength gains.

I love rest pause and decline skull c****ers. Great suggestions here.

i like the slingshot because its a tool, 425 still feels like 425 it just helps keep the form from breaking down and gives a bit of a bounce back, you need to gear a program towards the slingshot though if you plan on using it to try to bring up your bench

Yeah man I watch some videos of mark bell where he says the best way to use it is like if you do 3x3 bench not geared do another 3x3 with the slingshot at the same weight to build volume and overload

Being a powerlifter I love the sling shot it does help a lot believe me its just another tool to use to get your bench up same as chains, bands, press boards. Work your triceps and shoulders. Work on your form that's a huge part of it getting set on the bench where you put your hands on the bar effects a lot too. Do some close grip benches good for triceps. Once you get form down then look at your program I bench twice a week one week will go heavy 5x5 75% 80% 85% 90% 95% second week light weight 55% - 60% speed as fast as you can push the bar. third week heavy 3 reps as much weight as you can do 3 reps at. But like I said the sling shot is a great tool I highly recommend it but that's all it is a tool. Look at your form and try a program for 6wks and see what your max is. explosion and speed will help you get through your sticking points.
