Caffeine intake

Got a huge question. How are other cyclists using caffeine. I have never had a problem dropping bad habits, but the headaches that come along with quitting caffeine suck. I'm wondering which route would be the best if I want to indulge, just enough to keep the headaches away. Or is caffeine in itself, a big deal at all? Thanks.

The withdrawal is fucking hell. I drink 3 XL 2 cream coffees from Tim Horton's every day.. There's no way im stopping, I'm a biology major with a minor in physics

Well before this week about 600mg (3 sometimes 4 cups a day) as of this week 200mg and in the morning. So by 3pm head is beating like a bass drum.

Like any addiction you will have to slowly cut back, say 50mg every two days or so. Continue drinking the same amount of fluid, but reduce the caffeine content.

Your body becomes addicted to caffeine very easily. You are going to have to slowly wean yourself off. It will take time.

The best method I have found is to start replacing coffee with green tea. Drinking green tea is a great habit to get into and it'll help with the withdrawal symptoms. People often drink coffee out of habit and replacing the coffee with another warm beverage will help.

Best thing you can do is taper down. What I have done in the past is substitute caffeine pills so I know exactly how much I am getting. This makes it easier to gradually cut down. Use half regular and half decaf coffee to start. Work your way down to only decaf coffee and the necessary caffeine pills. Eventually you won't need any caffeine. A cup of decaf only has 12-20mg caffeine.

Thanks MB and Muskate. I think I will use the green tea and the pill method both. My gut tells me I would benefit from it, my head says "Screw your gut!" Lol

I have drank decaf before and felt fine. Maybe the taste of coffee tricked my body

it is legal to put caffeine in decaf coffee.. a lot of people do not realize this but its true.

decaf merely means caffeine is 50% less, but that is still too much

I work with a bunch of tweakers who don't order decaf at work. Lol. But that's cool about 50% I always assumed decaf was zero caffeine. Well, learn something new every day.

Folgers makes "half caff", could be a stepping stone so you can consume the same amount and get less actual caffeine. I guess mixing regular and decaf works too though lol

Really? Man the food industry is more full of smoke and mirrors than a fun house. Can't believe a thing you see
