Not necessarily always strive to get as lean as possible yet deadlift and squat over 200kg at 80kg.......... old age is now taking over so squat is not as strong as used to be but on any given day can still deadlift 200kg plus for reps :)

Really dude?.... There are plenty of powerlifters and strongmen that look bigger and leaner than you will ever ever be. Quit bein a hater!

You most defiantly can be incredibly strong at a lean body weight. Watch the Olympics and look at some of the lower weight classes. There are men under 150 pounds squatting 600+ pounds perfectly.

A lot of it comes down to genetics however. Some people are just built to squat and deadlift. Some people (like myself) are tall with extremely long limbs and a very small waist. I am not genetically built to squat heavy. That DOESNT mean I can't still make gains and progress in the gym, it just means I will never be an olympic record holder in power lifting.

Plenty of guys look awesome, it's a different look to a bodybuilder. Thicker midsection thicker through the joints and neck. You can also tell by their look that they possess a degree of athleticism and structural integrity that doesn't really appear so much in large bodybuilders. Look at guys like Vincent Urbank, Konstantinovs, Dan green, lighter fellas like pete rubish tj cummins etc, they look bloody awesome, strong lean etc

The era of fat powerlifters is pretty much done and dusted but it's a stereotype that has hung around from the days of big Andy Bolton and all the geared lifting of the early 00's, it's not really like that in raw lifting, fat and additional weight can only do so much for your leverages when the equipment is taken away. I'd suggest going to check out a few local meets I think you'd be pretty impressed

when I competed in powerlifting I was about 6% body fat

I had to make my weight class which you want to be as low as possible.

but I get what you are saying. some of the strongest dudes at the gym are 45 something dudes with guts. they don't care about counting calories or doing cardio or having a weak heart, they just lift big and eat big. hey its there thing, they are the guys whose car the thieves at the gym don't dare break into lol
